The Old Folks Home

Our weather had a glitch in it yesterday, the report, not the general weather.

It's been down right cold the last couple of days, highs in the forties, lows in the 20s but with plenty of sunshine.

Yesterday our weather report from NOAA said 'light snow in area'. Turned my head to look out the window and the sun is shining, no clouds in the sky. Hmmmmm. Went outside. No snow.

Two hours later, same conditions only it said, Light Rain in area. Nope, none of that either @NotAFarm

Last week I went to the local Amish store. We buy regular milk for drinking and I use powdered milk for cooking and making puddings. We usually keep about 6 gallons of milk on hand and I pick up a couple of containers of powdered milk either at the regular store or the Amish Variety store.

Last month I bought 2 pounds of powdered milk at $6.35. Last week I bought a pound and a half at $8.50.

When I put the two bags side by side my jaw dropped.

The Lipo powered chain saw my husband bought for me for my last birthday cost 199.00 in July of this year. Now it is at 259.00.

I don't know guys, but this scares the hell out of me. I don't know how any of us are going to survive this inflation that is happening to our country. We have been cutting back on what we buy and only buying the necessities but still at the end of the month what is going out isn't leaving very much to carry over to the next month. I've already cheapened up my chickens' feed as much as possible. As well as the pet food in general. I tell them, hey, we are eating cheap and so can you.

Next year will be a no hatch year simply because I can't afford to feed any more birds than the ones I have. I reduced my flock by over 10 % this past year just by losing bachelor roosters to free range predation. But cracked corn here went from $7.50 a 50# bag to 12.50 at the local feed store.

Just venting here but what have you all noticed as far as local pricing is concerned?

Hubby was shocked at how high prices are in Walmart. I told him, it's like that everywhere now. He doesn't get out much.

Oh it’s been going on for 48 years. We just had our 48th anniversary Oct. 8.
Happy belated anniversary!

48 years of morning headaches and tired all the time? I can understand not wanting more surgeries but an oral appliance isn't surgery nor invasive. Well the mold making isn't all that much fun. I'm sorry he is willing to suffer rather than see if it might help him.

Thank you! Yes it’s frustrating.

A box of taco shells (12) used to be $1.79. Now it's $2.59. Milk was $1.89, then up as high as $3.03, and last I noticed it was back down to $2.89.

We eat cheap. Really cheap. Tacos 2x or more a week. Spaghetti 1-2x a week (homegrown/home made sauce). Even so, it is getting pretty difficult to stay within the weekly budget.

Our IRAs have lost 23% of their value, just when we are retiring. DH could go back to work -- his employer told him he'd always be welcome back -- but I hope :fl :fl it does not come to that.

@sourland. So sorry to hear that your fur child lost their fight with epilepsy. Sometimes saying good bye is the last gift of dignity and love we can give our pets.

Hugs to you and Elaine also. :hugs It's been over a year since we lost our Sidney so we know what you are going through.
Thanks. One of the hardest decisions I have ever made, but it was the right one. To have kept her alive would have been selfish on my part.
