Morning, OF! About 2+ inches of snow here. Very pretty, looks like Christmas.

I put chicken wire over the 2x4 welded wire for the hoop coop. Had possums get in before. And killed 3 of my chickens, ripping them apart. Now Mini dispatches most of them.Around 4:45 this morning, one of the coop camera alarms went off. There was an opossum in one of the coops, eating out of the feeder. I was not happy that the electric fence was not working. Dh ran out there to take care of everything. He used the flashlight to shine a beam and light the way, where he wanted the opossum to run. At first it hissed, and spit, but quickly caught on, and was herded out of the coop.
Next to see what's going on with the fence. One of the tarps had partially blown off, and was on the ground wire, shorting it out. Got that fixed.
I asked Dh if he saw how the opossum got in, because I was concerned about a breach in my coop. Yes, he saw exactly how it got in, and out. While it was close to the camera, so it looked big, it was actually very young, and very small, so it fit through the 2 x 4 holes in the coop wire. With the electric fence at full force now, that should deter it if/when it tries to get in again.
Wonderful alarm system you have set up!I've got hardware cloth around almost all of the coops themselves, but not the runs, and I left the door open to the coop. It came in through the run, and walked through the door into the coop. The bigger problem was the electric fence being shorted out with the tarp. Now that's taken care of, so it should get zapped if it tries again. I'm keeping an eye out, and I think I'll shut all the coop doors later, before I go to bed.
