The Old Folks Home

Did 38 mile commute for 25+ years. It. Gets. OLD! Especially this time of year, living in the boonies with the unplowed roads, slush, slop, snow, ice.

Now, when the local weather says that there's a slide off and back up on the highway, DH and I turn to each other and say, "Well, that does it! I'm not going to work today!" :gig
Where I worked, (police dept.)there was no excuse not to make it to work, none. So, I had to be vigilant in keeping up with the future weather forecasts and take a vacation day or two. I lived the farthest so they'd even call me on my days off if a bad storm was coming to make sure I knew about it so could take off for it. Otherwise... winter.png

I can understand that. More than once, I spent the night at work because I thought I would probably make it home ok, but might not be able to make it back in.

Back when hubby and I both worked there, there was a year during "the season" (this time of year, Christmas rush), the boss sent hubby home to get our dog and a change of clothes and come back. The three of us spent the night in the conference room, sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags.

Good morning. ❤️ I'm looking at some of the years folks has been here on BYC. Seems a few of us have grown old together..and some grown even older. Glad I've gotten to know my old internet friends. It's been a hoot at times and it's been sad at times. We've shown compassion all along. Love you ol fogies. Hope you're enjoying the Season!

How long do you fry them? Details here.
Cut the apples in uniform slices or chunks. Melt 2 or 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet (I use an iron skillet) add the apples to the skillet and cook until they are tender (about 10 minutes depending on how thick the slices are) Stir frequently, they like to stick to the pan. Add cinnamon to taste (I used about 2 teaspoons) pinch of salt, and about a half cup of brown sugar. Stir to combine all ingredients. Serve warm or cold. They are good with a dip of ice cream or whipped cream.
