I've never been there but Hawaii is famous for black sand beaches. Iceland and Alaska have them too. They're supposed to be from lava flowing into the sea.

My kids and I went to Cat Island in the Bahamas. We were on an 8 mile long pink sand beach. The best part, not another person in site in either direction. Several other Bahamian islands have pink sand too. Pink sand comes from the coral.

For you Californians, are your tectonic plates moving toward each other or away.

Very cool!

I first remember learning about tectonic plates i grammer school when older brother did a paper on them. THese days my kids had a love of all things dinosaur, and they understand the moveing of the plates from before the time of the dinos ( Pangea) to today. We humans are but a blip in time.

Between daylight savings and nursing a very sick hen all weekend, I need a cup twice this size this morning!!!

Congrats on the big thaw.
It's in the 70s here today and tomorrow, then an inch of snow on Wednesday. Roller coaster here we come.

I wanted to share my weekend project. I spent the weekend putting in a base for our outdoor shower. I had originally put some leftover ceramic tiles on the soil but it was nothing but mud for the second shower. So, I built a box (4'x3'9") from treated 2x6s. Then, I dug out under the showhead and installed the box. Next, I put about 4" of sand in the box and wet it down well to settle and level it. Finally, I set concrete pavers in the sand and filled in with pea gavel. It is just to the right of the rock garden I posted a week or so ago.

This is the area just to the right of the rock garden, you can just see the edge of it on the left side of the first pic. I worked hard on it, but a couple of Motrins and I'm good to go!

Bunny, what is this little weed/flower that grows out in the middle of the grass lawn?
