The Old Folks Home

I read an article once that said most seniors close to death get shingles.

It sounds terrible!
My mom had colon cancer at 76, had surgery and chemo and was clean by 77, then had shingles twice and convinced me to get the vaccinations which I did. At 78 she died of a heart attack. The only blessing is this was the December before Covid hit.

I just got back from Moffitt Urgent Care. I began breaking out, in hives, which is a side effect of the chemo, and something that is to be checked immediately. Well, surprise-surprise, it's NOT hives. Lucky me, I've got shingles. The lowered immunity from the chemo, sometimes allows the shingles virus to rear it's ugly head.
So very sorry! :hugs Hopefully you get through them quickly. I know from mom, they are no picnic at all!

There is a vaccine for shingles I know I have had it.
Not certain if it takes boosters or what.
I got the vaccine a few years ago and mine was two shots, a month apart.

The shingles vaccine is two shots. Two to six months apart. I’ve had the first one which gave me a sore shoulder for a few days but nothing else.

I’m so sorry! I had a mild case during the pandemic and it was bizarre! What a weird virus! I hope you recover quickly and the rest of your chemo goes well! :hugs

Ron, your words of encouragement know no bounds.
Sorry, I did mis communicate for sure! I did not mean you were close to death.

Immune compromised often causes the same issues with dormant viruses.

I think it is a one time thing. Very expensive if you have no insurance.

I found this:

Currently, the shingles shot is covered by Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans with Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, but not under Original Medicare (Parts A and B).

Some people with Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage don’t have to pay any out-of-pocket costs for the shingles vaccine.*

Here’s some helpful information on the symptoms and causes of shingles, Medicare coverage of the vaccine and where to get a shot.
