The Old Folks Home

The heat zaps the appetite and it's even hard to drink water. Last winter I got dangerous dehydration. No less then a gal. Of water a day in the winter.. How much now. I'm hot in air conditioning and drinking more makes me sweat in the air conditioning, I feel like a leaking strainer. Not complaining, just scared sometimes.
Something I've found to be very helpful, is cold/frozen fruit. Not just any fruits, but fruits with juice, that help hydrate. Watermelon, cantaloupe, berries. When the heat drains you, cold watermelon chunks not only help hydrate you, but because it's cold, it helps cool you too. In addition, it helps replenish your energy. When it's out of season, those bags of frozen fruit work well too. Come in from working, grab a small bowl full of frozen berries, or mixed fruits. Don't worry about thawing them much. They're so much better for us than ice cream, cold drinks, etc.

It works for chickens, it works for zoo animals, and it works for people too.
