The Old Folks Home

We are in lockdown, too, here, and expecting chicks tomorrow, hopefully. My sister and her 3 kids are about to leave to go to the airport. I'll be picking them up around 2 in Portland. Right now I'm trying to finish up the last bit of chores and make some fresh bread before I have to leave to get them.

We're playing the little eggs some Pantera - seems to help them hatch and likely my sister won't allow anything like that around her kids so we've got to get our fill before our heads are filled with the Frozen soundtrack. She's also told me that even if the fox is on our front porch with my favorite hen in his mouth giving us the finger I am not allowed to shoot him in front of the kids. We'll see about that.

sounds like a perfect weekend to process. maybe a bird could fall on a loose hatchet

the circle of life.

i hope there are piggy backing fowl at least

Yes, the two toms, their hens and the two remaining ducks are quite full of it, lately.

We've also discovered that our rooster, despite trying hard, isn't getting the job done. I'm not sure if it's because he's a game bird, but he's not very graceful. He tends to fall off rather easily and will often mount the hen going the wrong way. I put 7 eggs from my flock into this hatch and only 1 developed. He'll be stew next time we process. Too bad because those cornish are delicious chickens.

I've got that, DiDi. I had to take the same compass, map and tracking with the bowhunting class on Sunday that I took 2 weeks prior with firearm hunter safety. I'm not going to say I'm twice as smart, but I did kick major butt the second time around. It did also help, however, that it was the same teachers and as such they used the same examples, and I happened to remember the answers ;)

Are you going to draw magnetic north lines on the map? In Maine it's 18 degrees west but I don't think that holds true for the entire country.

SCG it is not the same all over the country. The declination angle is in the legend. I also have to join the two maps because our route will go from one to the other and it will be easier to navigate with them joined. It is the same scale as what you worked though 1:24000. You have the compass right?

SCG Sisters are like that. Every time I'd tell her I met someone new, she'd say "He isn't married is he?" I didn't tell anyone she had cigarettes in her sweater drawer.

ChickenCanoe, I love your raised beds! I second and third thanking you for showing us all the trip photos! She's a really good photographer and it really does transport me there!

Hangtown, those babies are adorable! I have fallen in love with the silver chickens....droooooooool

Thanks for the photos Oz! I love what you guys have done to Coco Beach! The flowers are amazing and I'm so jealous of all the yummy looking fruits! You're babies are simply too cute for words!

SCG- I'm sorry, but that's just too much to ask of you. She will just have to grab her kids and bring them inside if a fox grabbed your chickens!
