Amazing pictures Oz. The variety of fruits you have to work with is enviable.
Are the white pigs Chester whites or Yorkshires? What is the spotted one? I miss having pigs.
Yeah for Penes in Coco Beach, they'll love it there.
Three weeks SGC!!!! Can't wait

Tell us about the trip you're planning - or did I miss it?

ChickenCanoe, I love your raised beds! I second and third thanking you for showing us all the trip photos! She's a really good photographer and it really does transport me there!

Hangtown, those babies are adorable! I have fallen in love with the silver chickens....droooooooool

Thanks for the photos Oz! I love what you guys have done to Coco Beach! The flowers are amazing and I'm so jealous of all the yummy looking fruits! You're babies are simply too cute for words!

SCG- I'm sorry, but that's just too much to ask of you. She will just have to grab her kids and bring them inside if a fox grabbed your chickens!
Thanks, I had just built them from old railroad ties. They're 4X40. The adjacent beds have been moved. I keep changing things. The beds aren't real straight but the ties weren't and after carrying them, I didn't have the energy to level the ground well. They've been in for about 4 years and replaced less durable ones that ran East/West. These are North/South. They're spaced so the riding mower can go down the middle and the push mower can go between the other beds.

Amen on SCG and the fox thing. Reality check. The kids will survive.
I'm just thinking out loud here. Wouldn't the kids be just as traumatized by the fox killing the chickens as they would be by killing the fox? Maybe she doesn't like chickens.

They finally made it to the islands.

If anything can survive, they can. At least that's my experience. I'm really excited you have some.

Second coop at Thistle Dew Ranch is well on its way to completion.

The weather has been so nice I have spent lots of time at the Ranch whilst John The Contractor works (although I suspect he gets more accomplished when I am not present).

This will be the Bachelor Quarters; the attached pen will be triangular, utilizing one side of the original pen. Smaller, too; I think I want the ladies to have more forage space for nummy eggs, so the roosters get the new coop. Besides, moving them could upset their laying. (Two mellow roosters will stay with the ladies ... Just because.)

I do wonder if it's "bad" to have an attached/adjacent pen for the boys to see all that poultry pulchitude parading before their eyes out of reach.

ChickenCanoe SCG, DH and I are all heading down to the Kanab area in just over three weeks from today. SCG and I are planning on getting spectacular pictures of red rock country again this year. I am itching to hit areas I didn't get to see last year. The topo map is of the Coyote Buttes area which we have a day permit for. We are renting a 4WD vehicle for a couple of days to get to some of the areas. I cannot wait and I know SCG has completely earned the relaxation time away from work.

Nice coop. I haven't found it's a problem to be in sight.

There was a study that showed pullets start laying sooner (reach sexual maturity) if they can see a rooster.
