The Old Folks Home

I'm here, I'm here..... don't worry, Bamadude. I am back home and preparing to go back to work tomorrow. I have had my screen name for a very long time (it was actually my very first internet name) and back then I was suffering some old regrets and "wishing" I had done things differently.

I am so happy that you all have kept yourselves entertained by chatting up a storm while I was away. That's so cool!

You wouldn't be the first BYC guy to choose a screen name that was almost the same as mine, we had a Wisher2000 for a short time. I persuaded him and the mods to change it. Don't get yourself banned again, you may not be allowed back

and I would miss you. Oh, and Dude, it's a Sig 40 cal.

Wisher I understand, I would hate to think there might be other "Coneheads" out there - don't mind too much about the drumstick diva stuff - a lot of divas and drumsticks already circulating.

For those of you worried about security, I am with Ron, they need a lot more than your real name to steal your identity. I have been using my real name on FB for years as my "avatar" and no one has ever stole my identity. You do have to be careful on what you share on social media and believe me sharing my name and where I live is not that scary.

Welcome back Wisher.

My last name is not very common either. I have never met someone with the same last name that was not a relative.

I have been confused with my Father though--Sucks being a Junior sometimes.
I've never met anyone with the same last name and I've only met one person with the same first name. I don't think a person exists with the same pair.

German and English extraction on Mom's side (although the English have been in CT since the 1600's); Welsh and English on Dad's side.
A cousin of sorts was doing the family tree on Mom's maternal familial side (my grandmonther was one of seven children, so there's many offshoot cousins) and got stuck at Mom's and her husband's father's grandfather, said there were no records about him anywhere. Well, wouldn't you know, I had his fraktur (ornate baptismal record) on my wall so I filled in the pieces of who was who borne of what/where/when and even though written in German and that style of writing where s's look like f's, I managed to get her the information so she could continue on with the family tree. Mom's grandfather, it appears, Anglicized his name upon enlistment for the Civil War from Mueller (PA German) to Miller and then moved to a whole 'nother life in CA after his discharge. It was fortuitous that Mom was such a pack rat and kept stuff like old frakturs and discharge papers....made it a lot easier to do forensics, especially since she's not around anymore to ask.

Ancestry.com is kind of fun to peruse, but rather incomplete on certain items..... I find it fascinating to talk to the elders and pick out some nuggets that might otherwise be lost for eternity.
That's pretty cool work. I've thought about ancestry.com but would hate to pay and find nothing there. I know there's no record of my grandfather at Ellis Island, I looked.
That would make sense since he supposedly jumped ship.

I was born in Deal, Kent, United Kingdom and my parents packed up and shipped the family to Australia when I was 7 years old ... 44 years ago.

Anyway, the name they gave me has undesirable connotations in Australia and after suffering through the comments and replying with the sarcastic retort of "gees, I haven't heard that one before" a friend's son couldn't pronounce my name and started calling me Teila. Over a period of years, this stuck and spread and I now have friends, colleagues etc who have no idea that it is not my birth name.
What undesirable connotations praytell, or would that get us all banned?

guys I hate to be a party pooper but, as I was enjoying stories of your ancestry, years and place of birth, mother's maiden names etc. etc. it suddenly dawned on me that this is just the type of information some perp needs to steal your identify.

I know your info is safe with us but, who knows how many thousands of strangers are lurking even as I write this. I know such info is also plucked off of other social sites.

...
That's why I haven't shared as much as I wanted. I'm paranoid.
We share names, phone numbers and addresses on our local chicken group but it's private and one must join to see content.
I was thinking the same thing.
It would be best if people sent it in a mass private message at most and at least, edit the posts removing that information.
Good idea.

I'm really paranoid now. 10 years ago I googled my name and there were no entries. I just googled chickens and my name and came back with 3 pages including pictures, videos, newspaper and tv stories.

I can PM some links.

I just asked a mod if i could change my screen name to wisher1000's loverboy. They said no. Im probably gonna keep on till they boot me.
You're cruising, You're a rebel, oh that's right, you're bamadude.
You remind me of a good friend I had from 'bama. He was from Muscle Shoals but moved back home. Haven't heard from him since.

And i saw life is too short to fish with a dead cricket on a bumper sticker. Have no idea what it means but sounds cool
Well, I've fished with dead crickets and live crickets. The live ones get a bite almost immediately.
When the live ones were all gone, fishing really slowed down.
So I'd say that bumper sticker is a true statement.

I am seriously chuckling out loud here but I am not going to say why in case there is such a thing as being banned by association

Funny stuff! :)
Maybe you'll get banned for your thoughts.
