The Old Folks Home

I'm getting to be like bamadude.
I was just partially responsible for a thread getting locked down. Actually, mostly responsible. Probably when I told the OP - shame one you.
I have to say, bamadude, I didn't get banned though.

That's fricken awesome! It actually brought a tear because I remember when mine were sweet and innocent like that. It seems like only yesterday they were that small. Now the oldest is married with 2 little ones of her own, the next will graduate high school this year, the middle is in 10th grade and the baby is a freshman. I miss the piddle paddle of little feet running through the house.

I am so stupid. I just looked at the date on the egg. It wasn't supposed to hatch till tomorrow. I set them in racks in sequential order. I don't know how it got in the rack that needed to go to the hatcher 5 days ago. I'm such a dummy.

I have a better system now. The set date is on top of the egg with the egg number. Actually the date is part of the egg number. I have a chart with the egg number, the date it was laid, the weight when it was laid and the date it was set.

As the saying goes: When you know better, you do better.

I bet it won't happen again....still a toughie. Sorry for your loss.

The humidity doesn't have to be an issue. They just need to lose a certain amount of moisture during the entire incubation. If you have a small incubator, go with a dry incubation and raise it when you need to for pipping and then let it get more arid again. The biggie is to have it more moist when they internally pip.

Dry incubation is a very misleading name for this method. It's not DRY, it's lower than 50%. Keep it around 35%.

Nothing against you CC, I just wanted to be sure people knew because I didn't when I started to try it one time. Luckily, someone corrected me before my eggs were too badly damaged... thank you Ron.

Oz what a cute picture of the kids. I can't imagine sleeping like that, although I know I did when I was a kid. Once I went to pee in the middle of the night and apparently fell asleep while doing it, fell off the toilet and slept on the cold tile floor with my pants down until my parents found me. I couldn't even do that now with the help of ethanol.

I would give up almost anything for a good nights sleep like I used to have as a kid.
