Once again, you guys n' gals had a fun time while I was pushing out some Zzzzzz's

And, once again, I am cleaning the spluttered coffee off my monitor .. mental note to self 'Do Not Read 'The Old Folks Home' With Coffee in Hand'!

A good chuckle to start my day though, thank you :)

Chickisoup and ozexpat, besides that chuckle, it was also both sad and heart warming to read your posts; Kudos to you both that you are able to take on and overcome such challenges.

Sometimes I think we are all a little bit like our chickens and do not show pain; we brush ourselves off and continue on like we are not hurting. For that reason, I have always tried to be kind and fair with everyone; we never know just what they are going through and what challenges they face on a daily basis.

So, it is 08:30am and I was awoken at 05:30am by my little kitty cat who believed that it was cuddle time and just as I was dozing off again I could hear noises from the coop which basically translated to "where is our breakfast?"

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here in Oz and I have a Silkie with a dirty posterior to bath .. that first egg sure did make a mess of her feathers but then, as I often say, I do not think there is much that will not stick to Silkie feathers! :) If she poops at the wrong time, just when the wind is blowing, that thing is stuck-fast! lol.

Enjoy your morning, afternoon or evening and happy chickens folks

How does that work with only one incubator? Doesn't the fluctuation in humidity for lockdown have an adverse effect?

Well, over-ordering (for once) adequately compensates as out of the 40-ish eggs I will actually have I should be able to -- the hatching gods willing -- end up with 8-10 fem chicks.

Even without the fourth batch of eggs coming in I'll have a crowded incubator. At least I won't have to decide who doesn't ride the racks as there will be room for all.
(Did I mention I was a hatchaholic? Oh, yeah. A good incubator is a full incubator)
The humidity doesn't have to be an issue. They just need to lose a certain amount of moisture during the entire incubation. If you have a small incubator, go with a dry incubation and raise it when you need to for pipping and then let it get more arid again. The biggie is to have it more moist when they internally pip.

The old timers are #2 for most active thread. Wheres tara when u need her?

We have you.
the kids out cold at 550am

Love that look.

I miss when my kids were that age. When they believed everything you said and you were king in their mind.

I am so stupid. I just looked at the date on the egg. It wasn't supposed to hatch till tomorrow. I set them in racks in sequential order. I don't know how it got in the rack that needed to go to the hatcher 5 days ago. I'm such a dummy.

I have a better system now. The set date is on top of the egg with the egg number. Actually the date is part of the egg number. I have a chart with the egg number, the date it was laid, the weight when it was laid and the date it was set.

I'm getting to be like bamadude.
I was just partially responsible for a thread getting locked down. Actually, mostly responsible. Probably when I told the OP - shame on you.
I have to say, bamadude, I didn't get banned though.
