The Old Folks Home

My only comment on ObamaCare-I am covered under my hubby's medical and drug insurance that he worked hard for many years to pay for while still paying for the medicare coverage. Something happens to him, the insurance and drug coverage goes away. I am not old enough for medicare (which I also worked most of my life, even after becoming ill, to pay for). Wouldn't matter. The drug keeping me alive, $8,000.00 a month for 30 pills, no kidding, is not covered under ObamaCare. Every 3-4 months (depending on how things are going) they must do a quantitative PCR blood test to track my PCRU (or not) very expensive, yep, you guessed it. As of my latest checking, none of this is covered anymore. Conclusion? Unless huge adjustments have been made I am not aware of, if something happens to my DH (who is somewhat older than myself) I am officially toast. I am not alone. I personally know several others, already forced on to the "new" medicare who literally are facing selling their homes, which would buy them maybe another year or so anyway (do the math) or keeping what they have so they have a nice place to die. This is not an exaggeration, this is a reality for many who are battling cancers and dealing with huge drug/medical costs in this country.

BTW - my particular drug would cost no more than $400 to $800 per month in any other civilized nation in the world but it is against the law to get it from outside the country and import it because of federal regulations protecting the drug companies.

SSSSSCCCCRRREEEERCCCHHHH. Sound of me dragging off my soapbox now, no more comment.

Do you have a processing guide? I have an old backissue of some kind of poultry magazine with processing instructions and pictures if you want I can email it to you. It was helpful when first starting out.
u are awesome. That would be great. Ive processed hogs, deer, fish, doves, quail, and squirrell. My main concern would be the feathers. Im thinking of investing in a cone too. Any thoughts on using the cone or do u guys use the ax and stump method?

Oz. I am one who lost my "cheap" healthcare. We understood the limits of our "major medical" policy; and we worked with it. For example, normal, healthy pregnancies weren't covered, but complications were, so when my OB/GYN termed my pregnancy with my son "boring" we cheerfully paid the full hospital bill and considered ourselves blessed. We paid the deductibles and other costs involved, perhaps we are in a minority because we have been relatively healthy and only needed to see a physician a couple of times per year, at most.

Our policy was cancelled, and the only policies available to us were considerably higher in price than we were paying. We qualified for a pretty solid subsidy.Yep, that's right, your taxes are now subsidizing the expanded health coverage that I am getting, which we (thank the Lord) still haven't had a need to use. Without that subsidy, a pretty hefty chunk of my family's limited finances would be paying for a policy that we are now required by law to have, but that we previously couldn't have afforded.

I'm glad to hear that it is working for some folks; it's nerve-wracking to us to hear that the government is considering making us pay the full price tag for coverage that we knew we couldn't afford in the first place.

The ACA is not going away. It needs some revision and tweeking for sure.

I cannot see the subsidies go away under a Democrat lead govt.

As a responsible tax payer it is my responsibility to help subsidise your health care. Thats what being a good citizen is all about. Caring for others.

We used to care for the people in our village. If someone was sick, we would help them out. cook and clean for them. Watch their kids. We subsidised them. Nowdays we deal with money instead of time or goods.

Taxes and subsidies are not evil. Wasting the taxes and subsidies are.

BTW a pregancy thats termed means an abortion - I know you did not mean that.

How much does DNA sexing cost in the states?

here is the link you need

Oz, that was meant more as participation in the Silkie sexing discussion, and to see if anyone would chime in with their personal experiences. While I do value the service provided by the best search engine out there, isn't a forum meant to be a place for sharing knowledge?

This by the way sounds a lot snarkier than it's meant to, I didn't actually take offence.

2 nails driven into a stump and an axe works for us. We tie the feet up beforehand so we can quickly hang them up to bleed out. The feathers I've found are easier to pluck than to use a mechanical plucker (which we made).
