The Old Folks Home

Vehve: thanks for the recipe. Ive heard about people purging them for a day or 2 to clean out their digestive system. Do u purge yours?

Snails need to be purged, or fed safe food for a bit because they can live off of things that are poisonous to us. They will likely be safe to eat but you never know what they have been eating.

Heavy metals to arsenic?

ducks eat snails and slugs like gangbusters! A lot of people's chickens (mine included) refuse them.

My Dominiques relish escargot, including the ones that come with the shelves conveniently removed.

I have heard some chickens refuse them; I guess we've been lucky around here as the slimy ones are the main garden pests we have in our California yard.

I've never caught them myself, only bought them live. I would assume they've been caught a day or two in advance then. I don't think people who catch them themselves purge them though.

I don't know the name of the variety. The plant is compact and the peppers are in shades of cream, yellow, purple, orange, and red, on the same plant! They actually change colors as they mature and the different colors represent the various stages of development. I had them when I was a kid and loved them, they are so pretty. I got older and moved from my parent's home and the plants were lost. I finally found some and was thrilled, but I got distracted by life and my starts dried out. I would try to find and post a pic, but alas..................
