The Old Folks Home

Just seeing this. So sorry. Hope it heals well and quick!

Thanks!

I have her on arnica, green tea for anti oxidents and multi minerals. She is also getting very high quality eggs each day to keep protein up. Apparently not enough protein and carbs can cause mushy bones at the break site.

We can't have any mushy bones!

Chicken Canoe when we are watching television, hubby will mention something that was just on and I have no idea to what he is referring, I also tend to zone out, especially during the commercials

Vehve beautiful pictures!

Ronott1 ouch! I hope your DW recovers quickly, sounds painful.

SCG very clever and also very nice; I wish I had some ability when it comes to sewing but sadly not my forte.

Haven’t seen Guardian of the Galaxy yet but it is on my wish list. Hubby is a huge Marvel fan and is like a big kid when a new Avengers, Iron Man or Captain America movie etc is due for release. He came home on Friday with a copy of ‘Captain America – the Winter Soldier’ on DVD which apparently he “accidentally bought”!

I thought it was OK but as per usual, lost the plot a couple of times, probably that earlier mentioned zoning out.

Yesterday afternoon I defied the rain and let the girls out for a supervised free range for a couple of hours; they had a great time! Me, not so much, got a bit soggy but I couldn’t leave them cooped up any longer.

More rain forecast for today but maybe not so much; I can put those Ark building plans on the back burner and concentrate on getting some washing done and dry instead.

You can actually see land on the rain radar this morning:

Have fun and happy chickens folks

Hey ChickenCanoe, thanks so much for the info. I looked up the top one and found that Shreveport has it's own brewery. I'm thinking spent grains. They have Saturday tours and I'm going. I also found out that we have an Elvis Presley Blvd. and they erected a statue TODAY and I missed it. Priscilla was there. sigh Other than being decended from Sam Houston's brother I have no other famous things except that a few months before Elvis died he came to Shreveport to give a concert. And I thought "I'll catch him next time."

To be fair the tickets sold out in 5 hrs.

For the ones that don't listen to the words you have to use actions. While at Pizza Hut one day we were paying the bill at the register and my youngest left our side and went through the door to the foyer where the bubblegum and penny toy machines were. She had been told not to wander. She was about 8. My husband was paying and I spotted her. I rushed through the foyer door snatched her up and was out the door into the parking lot where I sat her back down on the ground and looked her in the eye and told her that if I had been a predator I could have had her in a car and out of that parking lot before her dad or me could have stopped it.

That held for several years. I had to demonstrate it once more when she was 12 and went off on her bike to the park without telling us. I had to show her that it was not hard to snatch a kid off a moving bike. And I am strong 5'4" woman but not near the strength that a 6 foot male would possess. Some people just have to be shown that they are not invincible.

Penny, what a wonderful life lesson. Kids have no idea unless they are told. Or shown. I remember being on vacation in Biloxi Ms thirty years ago and I missed my 5 yr old. Just gone. We searched and searched for about 15 min. and I was ready to call the cops when an older sister of hers thought that maybe she might be upstairs playing with the motel owners daughter the same age. First I had heard of her. There she was. I took her back and gave her physical punishment. Years later all I had to do was point at her and say "The Brush" This of course shows you how often I punished my kids. They remembered it.

My wife will be watching a program and I'll ask her what they said and she says, I don't know. This happens all the time. She sits in front and blanks out.

I've rarely been to the library since Google. Don't know how I'd do research, or more importantly, how I did research without it. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet though. I tend to look for scholarly articles based on research.

The internet is wonderful but it takes a while to figure out how to ferret fact from fiction. That much information can't be true. I just coined that expression.
For political things, I like Politifact's 'pants on fire' section which verifies or vilifies crazy things politicians say.

It's amazing how much politicians and pundits lie and they don't get called out.

It's already 93 and realfeel of 103. Heat index will be over 110 today. I'll have to put an air conditioner in with the chicks.

I don't know why I go on these sites. I spend too much time surfing around and youtube is a bad one for me. I go from video to video before I remember what I came for.

Here's one on a La congressional candidate and, by the way, I agree with her. I may be the only one by the outrage.

Oh, we went through that too, still, "It won't happen to me." Attitude and words. I guess you could take it as good parenting that they aren't afraid but if they aren't afraid, I'm afraid mine would be the one taken next. I have told them, as kids, that if predators will take adult women and men, what chance did they think they have against adults? Still, "It won't happen to me." Then they wonder why I won't let them leave without telling me, who, where, what and when. On top of that, if they went to a friends house, unless they were leaving with the parents, they were to call and let us know where they were going next. Only one or two of them obeyed that rule.
