The Old Folks Home

One of the stories I told them was about a friend of mine who was an ex-Navy Seal. He had been trained to do some amazing and violent things. After he was out of the Navy he was working for a newspaper as a advertisement salesman/graphic artist. One day a new person walks into their building explains that he has just bought the paper and hands them all checks for the work that they had done up until that day. He leaves shocked and stunned and depressed. He cashed his check and went out to the beach in Ocean Veiw (VA) to walk and clear his head. He was walking along with his head down and after dark when suddenly 7 or 8 guys rush him knock him down, pin him, punch him a couple of times and frisk him for his wallet. They take the money and leave his wallet in the sand. I explained to my girls that anyone can be taken down with enough people. My friend was distracted and depressed and not aware of his surroundings. This made him a mark. Prey. You should always be aware of what is going around you. He had a few body bruises and a big bruised ego. But the next day the new owner of the paper hired him back.
dude...everyone knows you don't go walking in Ocean View at night!

Well that was 1983. Wasn't quite as bad.

She is getting a bit better each day. Monday morning the Ortho Docs will take out stitches and change to a real cast.

Road rash, bruises and muscle tears cause a bunch of pain. She is still on norco.
Was she driving?

Thanks!

I have her on arnica, green tea for anti oxidents and multi minerals. She is also getting very high quality eggs each day to keep protein up. Apparently not enough protein and carbs can cause mushy bones at the break site.

We can't have any mushy bones!
eggs are great for vitamins and minerals and a good source of animal protein but are only 12% protein.

We already had vit D and I picked up some calcium today.

Thanks!

A less classy person would make a joke about wood right here...
And you, young man, are too classy.

Chicken Canoe when we are watching television, hubby will mention something that was just on and I have no idea to what he is referring, I also tend to zone out, especially during the commercials

Yesterday afternoon I defied the rain and let the girls out for a supervised free range for a couple of hours; they had a great time! Me, not so much, got a bit soggy but I couldn’t leave them cooped up any longer.

More rain forecast for today but maybe not so much; I can put those Ark building plans on the back burner and concentrate on getting some washing done and dry instead.

You and she must be twins. Happens all the time here.

We had a ton of rain that ended several days ago but it is still clammy here with a layer of condensation on everything. Oh and it will be 99(37C)+ today.

...reveport has it's own brewery. I'm thinking spent grains. They have Saturday tours and I'm going. ..

Good idea. We have a bunch of micro breweries. I'm looking into it too.
I don't know why I go on these sites. I spend too much time surfing around and youtube is a bad one for me. I go from video to video before I remember what I came for.

Here's one on a La congressional candidate and, by the way, I agree with her. I may be the only one by the outrage.

I do the same on YouTube, especially with musicians.

Not that I'm taking the bait but 12 of the past 15 years have been the hottest years on record.
I think it's called global warming, not local warming.

Henry Paulson was George W. Bush's Treasury Secretary editorial on economy.

I need to delete a bunch of pics in my albums.

Maybe I should have added..the Kohliva is taken to the church, a set of prayers are said over the Kohliva, remembering the person who died, we all sing the song "Memory Eternal" in this super sad melody, always makes me cry.

Then, at the end of the service, everyone in the church, when they come to the front for the final blessing from the priest, gets some of the Kohliva to eat (usually handed out in those little Dixie cups).
I lost my two best friends 20 and 30 years ago. One when he was 42 the other was 35. Stroke and cancer.

If you can get some aloe vera gel, rubbed on it makes the bruising go away pretty darn quickly. This is something I learned in my auto accident where my breasts got both mashed by the steering wheel and took a beating from the seat belt. Had I not been, err, blessed by Grandma's inherited endowments I probably would've died. As it was, I had bruises the size and shape of Australia which went from deep black to banana to nada in no time flat thanks to aloe vera. That bruise-minimizing trick was passed along to me, so I'm just paying it forward.

Hope she feels better soon!
I was holistically prescribed a comfrey poultice for something similar. It seemed to do well.

ALASKAN- I loved your explanation of the Memorial Berries. I had never heard that before but vaguely remember hearing something about the Orthodox way of honoring the memory of those past, you get the idea. How beautiful.

There is peace once again in the valley of the old folks

I'm loving the idea of spent grains. I'm also going to check it out. I grow comfrey and have just about managed to kill it. Gotta do better. I wasn't trying to lure you into a political conversation. I hate talking politics. Yes, I am a conspiracy buff. Moderately. I'm not rabid about anything, except my chickens. Unfortunately, my kids bare the brunt of it. Yada yada.

RON??? EVERYONE ON THE WEST COAST???? are you guys all ok???
Reports of some damage in the Napa Valley with lots of folks without power further north.

We are fairly far from the epicenter. A couple of BYC members checked in this morning. Walt says that he does not see damage on the house. His chickens are ok. Debi says it woke her up but all is well.

I slept through it but my DW did feel it and she said the chickens were making noise. The chickens were acting odd at 6 when I got up too.

This is a link to the quake map:

Yes, ron..did you feel the quake? I hear it was felt, but so far only one building has had damage?

I read the MSN news that said Napa had a couple of damaged buildings and a broken water main. Two major injuries at hospitals but no deaths reported yet.

chicki..I used to love to post the good mornings and good nights...here's one back at ya...have a great day everyone! Glad you weren't too close to that quake ron!
