The Old Folks Home

I saw a toad for the first time in years last night. The neighbor mentioned seeing it a few nights ago, and last night when we came home we saw something in the driveway. Turns out, it was this guy, a bit bigger than a tennis ball.

Some coop updates today too. Egg production seems to be declining, so we added a light into the run, and hooked that and the coop light on timers to give some more light in the evening. The run light shuts down 15 minutes before the coop light. We also installed a gutter on the coop.

I still need to find a suitable barrel to collect the water in, and install a longer pipe on it.

I know...I fixed it but they quoted it too fast. It was very early in the morning but typos are common for me....

I was looking at a pressure canning system the other day too.

Are you going to get one? I could make a really bad joke here about the NSA but I'll play well with others.

at least you didn't inadvertently call yourself a hijacker. (*shakes fist* autocorrect)

Your post about this made me laugh so hard, I'm very sorry, but it did. Glad you have a sense of humor about it.

Tomatoes done, on to dillys.

I have two fagor pressure cookers that I love. I ran across the fagor pressure canner while looking for a new seal for the 6qt. cooker which I use a couple times a week.

I will add the pressure canner to my wish list.

Mine is both a cooker and a canner but I've never actually cooked in it. What do you make in it?

My next one will be an American brand that doesn't require a new seal each year.

The european viper or adder (vipera berus) is our only poisonous snake. We also have grass snakes (natrix natrix), and a few lizards, like zootoca cicipara, and the snake resembling slow worm (anguis fragilis). Karin was bit in the butt a few summers ago by a viper.

And then we have these:

This guy is a dwarf caiman, and can be found at Korkeasaari zoo in Helsinki. Not something you'd find in the wild though.
