I used it on a rotational basis... sometimes more sometimes less... just like they would be getting from foraging. So a fifty pound bag would last me two or three months. I forget the percentage.... but it was like one scoop out of five....

edited to add: When I get my coop rebuilt and the huge run established there will be an addition.... a Game feeder. It will have a mix of scratch and catfish and the feeder itself will be set to scatter feed several times per day. Kind of an enrichement deal. because I cant freerange I will be encouraging movement in the flock they will have to fly up and down for treats.... Just to keep them less apt to pick on each other.

Yeah, I do 20% of ration. It bumps up the protein nicely.

Lookey here what my mother in law got us. Aint she great...

Mine got me a chicken themed toaster cover....
I must say I'm thankful it doesn't fit.

Quote: Yes I did Catfish feed in the powder form.

I used to use Catfish chow to supplement because I cant let the chickens free range at all... They get alot of protein from bugsies.... I used the pelleted form it mixes in with the Lay pellets without a visible difference. Its pretty inexpensive.

We feed crumbles so the powdered mixes in with ours well also. My bird don't get to free range either but they get a good bit of bugs even more when we cut the grass. lol

She's right! If you take gluten out of your diet, or at least restrict it (which lots of carbs have gluten, breads and such), it will greatly help with your RA! The gluten attacks our joints and inflames them. Reducing or eliminating gluten would help everyone with arthritis. Something else that would help you is to add an all natural gelatin to your diet. I have one knuckle that would sometimes give me trouble (after I so gracefully smashed it a hammer while gardening) and it really helped! I put a tablespoon in my coffee, just adding a little more sweetener covered the taste, or you can make some fun homemade gummy candy! (It's for my arthritis, I SWEAR! ;-) If you think about it, we're really not getting enough gelatin in our diets anymore. Back in the day, people would make bone broth and knaw on bones, even eat the marrow! I found both porcine and bovine gelatin on Amazon. I hope you find some respite from the pain!
Thanks Dragonfly! I will have to order some and try it. I know I use a ham bone with lots of meat on it to flavor my peas or beans but don't eat them enough.

When we went to the Co-op this last week I bought some wheat, oats, turkey delight and game bird starter. Then we went to TSC and got 5 bags of feed and wild bird seed mix and some show bird feed. I spend at least 30 min. mixing it all in with my catfish feed except for the game bird starter. Then I throw out wild bird seed with some of the other seeds and whole corn for a treat in the afternoon or evening. And I am sprouting oats, wheat and boss mixed to give for treat once a week. But I am just enjoying them till DH makes me get rid of them all next year.
