The Old Folks Home

Welcome, Bucky52 and Cynthia12! Glad you joined us. There is no age limit here. Anyone wanting to socialize with us is welcome.

Yinepu - The request for insights was on the candled eggs not the upload issues. That didn't come across clearly, my bad. Lately, when I try to upload a pic, the box comes up where you select the size and check the copyright box, the bar starts across the top and stops either 1/4 of the way or about half way and it stays there a long time. If I wait it out, I get another box that says there has been an error in the upload and to try again later.

ChestnutRidge - I have never candled any eggs that were not incubated in a turner! I didn't consider that it might make a difference! LOL! I feel better now......

Great pics, y'all! Keep 'em coming!

So, I thought I may as well. I needed help up..I remember yelling, help.. :)
I can't even imagine that this is just right around the corner. Right now, just happy to
have the air on .
Now this is what I would do!!! I have young children and love playing with them. Of course they usually like snowball fights, 2 against one! LOL

THe snow looks so refreshing!!!!

Today was muggy, and a T storm blew by to the north with barely a sprinkle or a grumble here. I noticed a few chickens headed for their coops to get out of the rain . . .. or was it really all the old hay the boys just put in!!

Glad you could join us!

Last I remember that was the plan . . . big secret . . . . I miss posts sometimes so I'm not the one to ask about it . . . .mommy brain . . .

I missed about 4 days, skimmed quickly once or twice daily, due to my parents visit. I hope it didn't go bad and I'm the one bringing it up... I thought I missed it. Let's move along...

So... gratuitous goat picture... pruning my bush for me. How nice.

My mom also bought me a pressure canner while she was here... now I'm a pretty smart person and that manual is like reading greek. I was really lucky when I decided to hot water can that I found a step by step picture guide online and someone in Maine willing to help me my first time. Now I've got a bunch of tomatoes that need tending before they go bad and I'm trying to figure out O rings, weights and exhaust holes.

Hi Arielle

My favorite pullet is getting big! And pretty..and, guess what? The two Marans eggs that made it, are pullets! They made a trip to Idaho..and the lady was so excited to have two girls.

Quote: THats the benefit of acidic tomatoes-- you don't need to pressure can, only hot water can. I'ts been awhile since I did it--like 35 years!!!! My mom always managed the predssure cooker, we just had to listen for it to come up to speed. It is a learned thing as I remember---how much the noisy thing lets off steam. Hey you should be able to handle it!!! Think of it like another chemistry class!! A sort of biochem class, or physics. Yes, that's it! Physics.

My mom canned all kinds of things, the shelves were always full come winter. You'll get it.
