The Old Folks Home

Deb i pour it through a coffee filter inside of a funnel. Im still alive

Kewel.... I was wondering if a coffee filter would work.

Hey Give coconut oil a try for frying shrimp in a pan... Just needs a table spoon for flavor... but the oil keeps good on the shelf in the cabinet and is solid at room temperature... and it melts at about 90ish degrees... I used to take a teaspoon full in my coffee in the morning.... Long time ago.

for what its worth you can do it in a frying pan.... I fry fish and chicken all the time in just a plain ole frying pan. With fish you do have to flip them over....

Also when I do chicken its just for the browning part... I finish the fried chicken off in the oven....

My issue with deep frying is the amount of oil you have to heat up to do the deed.... Its then pretty much only useful for deep frying or you have to toss it out. Though Having a fry baby might be worth it.... Once its cooled off all you have to do is pop on an airtight lid to the oil chamber.

Oh and there is a Fry Daddy too.

This used to be my favorite appliance. Then I loaned it to DD when she lived in Dallas. They were frying fish with another couple when the power went off and after half an hour decided to go get Mexican. They were almost through dinner when Aimee said to her then husband, "Did you unplug the fry daddy?" No. So they rushed back and came upon all the cars and fire trucks. Burned the apt and almost the building. I think they were 19 at the time. Stupid. The complex insurance company wanted them to pay for the damages. Bahahahaha. Like they had 2 nickels to rub together. They got out of paying by stating that the fire alarms in all the apts in the building had been unplugged. Scary. I personally lost a lot. Ha. Antiques, paintinga, blah blah. A good lesson learned. Don't treasure your treasures too much. They could be up in smoke. Same thing with the break in that happened almost 30 yrs ago. I had a lot of jewelry at the time. Kind of my passion. They took it all. BUT the insurance company said that because I lived in a mobile home all it was worth was $100. A joke , $19,000 gone in an instant. So I learned to not put my interest or passion in THINGS. People are more important. It just about killed my Mama. She was the one that kept buying me the GOOD stuff. I liked it but survived quite well without it. Now I don't have any left. When Mama died 3 yrs ago, I had an estate sale and sold all her jewels. I'm sure she rolled over in her grave but I was never going to use it. And it helped us get set up in our home and lifestyle now. Paid for Aimee's dog grooming shop and really set them up for retirement in years to come. A win-win

Actually....that is very true.

My kids start melting when the temps hit 65, at 70 they are prostrate. If we are running around even at just 56 or so, the youngest still wants to pull up his shirt because his "belly gets too hot."

However, one of my kids looks like a Mexican if he gets any sun. It is funny, I have one kid that turns into a tomato if sun shines on his skin, and a different one that wants to be a Mexican. And yep, same parents for the lot of them.

What is funny, is the one child that wears a minimum of two shirts at all times, he is the only one that was born in Texas, but we moved up here BEFORE his 2nd birthday (This is child #1, not my Mexican boy). They rest of the lot run around in short sleeves, even today. Me? I have fleece, long pants, wool socks, wool sweater, long coat, and a fuzzy blanket.

lady is right, I love the crazy people up here, and I love the SPARSE population.

Well, I've totally forgotten who gave the suggestion but I'm sitting down to toast and 3 small perfectly poached eggs. You're right, it is perfect. The rest of the gang ordered in pizza. I'm tired of pizza.

I have also used the coffee filter too, but now I have a little deep fryer it filters for me and it drains into a skinny little container that fits well in my fridge.
