The Old Folks Home

What a sweetheart!! I don't know about sellers these days, I never let a puppy go that didn't have a fresh bath, trim(if needed) nails done, ears cleaned, anal glands emptied out, etc. Definitely no fleas or worms. Maybe folks just want it to look like they were raised in the wild and not a wussy cleaned up pooch.

I am missing dsqards pics and scg's smart allec remarks.

SCG got annoyed during the rants of the person that suggested I get a freighter across the pacific.

She may need coaxing back.

OK catching up on a few days of posts.

Did I really read free range red wine? What the heck is that?

"There is no money in curing" -- any idea how much the govt would save treating diabetes if there was a cure? The NIH, the largest funder of medical research in the world would be all over anything with merit.

I am not big on snake oils that claim to treat diseases of different etiology.

I am even more dubious of medications that cure.

The thing I hate most in in print and on TV is the ads that proclaim "Clinically proven." BS proven of what - they don't tell you the truth. "totally a waste of your money."

unfortunately the US is a litigious society...

Back in the 60s when we had a family doctor...  No insurance just a family doctor we could go to him for Broken arms tonsils even having a baby....

Then the lawyers saw an opportunity....  Doctors insurance fees sky rocketed.  Now Doctors dont "do" general practice any more....  they have to refer to a specialist...

The only exception will be country doctors here in the US...  Remote locations...

Also why I haven't seen a doctor in about ten years....  Because of the insurance .... they wouldn't take preexisting conditions.  NEVER mind obesity...  because of my being more than 40 lbs over weight  I was considered obese and insurance would have run me 1500 a MONTH...  which was at the time three quarters of my wages.

So I am not happy about the way it was done but am happy some regulations have been provided so people like me can get some health care....

So....  Here you have to have homeowners insurance incase some bozo falls off your roof or stubbs their toe in the driveway....  But HECK you can shoot em dead and drag em in the house and its all OK.

Messed up is right.

Thank goodness for the ACA.

Insert intense sarcasm here.... Oh but they have Pages of Testimonials and Videos and books that say what they have is a true wonder.

Unfortunately (no sarcasm now) there are some that do good... so they get tossed out with the bath water....

Even the herbals you have to be careful with... a single drop of belladonna placed on the tongue will stop stomach cramps in a horse. I used to have Bell drops on hand... Colic in horses is deadly.... But regs say you cant sell it in the US because its poison... and boy yeah it is... That bottle lasted me twenty five years... It was less than an ounce.

There is an herb on my property called Yerba Santa.... an herb used by Native Americans for cough from colds and to ease asthma.... It can be brewed chewed and smoked.... I am not a trained herbalist therefore I would never use it on my own... But I have plucked a leaf and chewed it.... Tastes very much like the original Cepacol cough drop.... without the sugar.

So when something looks good I am a thorough label reader.... even if there is a lot of hype.... I also look up the side effects and who should NOT use it.

For instance I am have a great deal of trouble sleeping this past week... I am exhausted. I read up and bought a bottle of Kava Kava root in capsule form. Its to support relaxation and ease stress. I took a regular dose Three caps spread out with three meals... I did sleep but the next day I was walking around in a fog... detatched and kind of loopy. So the next time I took a single cap just before bed time... again decent nights sleep... and the loopy feeling disappated by about eleven am the next morning.... This is something I should only take with great care... because of my own physiology.

I love US drug commercials. First it tells you about the drug in 10 seconds, and then spends 20 seconds listing side effects like the person talking would be on speed. Here I think the only requirement is to have a text saying "Consult your doctor before use" or something similar... It's enough to pack a sheet listing the side effects with the medicine itself. So you just get the lovely illustrations of how the antacid turns the evil red triangles in you stomach into friendly green balls (luckily the commercials have evolved a bit from that).

We will see how good it is because I still havent got my cards...

I am going through MediCal through Covered California. Medi-Cal originally was set up for low income families with children or elderly or emergency surgery like for Cesarian sections... But typically its not offered to people with more than one car or who have houses.... Obamba care only goes by income... So the application is twirling in Cyber space like a hot buttered cat array....

sorry my latest humor about cats has been a bit dark.....

FWIW hot buttered cat array is an engineering joke.... Buttered toast always lands butter side down.... Cats always land on their feet.... Therefore if you tape buttered toast to the back of a cat and drop the assembly it will levitate not knowing which side to hit the ground.... Then someone postulated forming an array of such assemblies .... energy problems solved. I saw this Gif and just about fell off my chair laughing.

And yes I did Contact MediCal and hopefully its being straightened out.

Oh yeah the disclaimer.... Rolling eyes here... then there is the Whole Class action suit that follows within six months to a year...

There are meds right now that Europe has been using for twenty years now that are not "approved" in the US... Because they didnt go through OUR clinical trials...

sorry I am very tired... not making sense here... Taking a Kava Kava now dont care if I am loopy tomorrow.
