Oh you guys! I almost peed my pants laughing at the mb & jag commercials. BTW my bf @duckmang is a mb mechanic going on 20 years now.
Sorry I've been so quiet, we've been so busy building a chicken/duck condo building
Happy belated bday oz!
I told my bf I want 2 incubators and brooder heater/nipple waterer stuff and for him to pay a bit towards my spring chick order of svart honas, ayam cemani and another line of white bresse gff is importing. I want to do continual hatches, so I'm debating between the
brinsea 40, rcom king suro, and the janoel jn7-56. I think I want the janoel jn5-60 to hatch in after incubating. Thoughts? I have never hatched before, but I want to learn. Plus, I've got some chickens I want to breed and hatch out their eggs to ensure a good hatch, idk if I would trust a broody with some of these breeds.
I'm afraid to count my chickens and ducks anymore. At one point I had 55 birds, I don't think I'm under 50 though.
I'm very attached to my haffie roo Nugget, we tried to caponize him yesterday, it didn't happen, he was bleeding way too badly to even try to use the rib separator. We're going to try again next week, he's so sweet and loves cuddles. Anyone want a half ayam cemani and half mottled orpington rooster?
I'm surprised my ac are so heavy compared to their size. The white bresse are also surprisingly heavy. I had to give 3 a bath yesterday. They seem to love cuddles too, which makes chicken tending a joy when they are so happy to see me. My bf said I can't keep all my different breeds of chickens here so if I'm serious about breeding I will need to phase out my pretty colored egg layers and surgically semi-quieted rooster and probably move the white bresse into that area in the spring/summer. I think all my pullets in my laying flock are now laying, I'm dragging my feet as to freezer camp send offs. My excuse atm is that I can't sex the muscovies yet, but the silver drake has got to go asap, he's such a pain in the behind to put up every night. We are short on freezer space too. I have "superfan" a loud annoying speckled sussex with held from food atm. Working up my courage to try to process him by myself w/o my bf doing the deed.
We got our meat bunny Grace pregnant this weekend with a 16lb nzw buck for the daddy. Hopefully baby buns in 28 days.
Our friends came by that just moved to the western slope and are starting to grow hemp on 17 acres, so I'm tracking down seeds to get them started, which is and isn't hard. Agh. I have hemp seeds, but idk the gsmr or cannabanoid profiles which the state wants for the permit to be in certain ratios. They aren't making this easy at all you know, to grow industrial hemp. I guess I'm now foraying headlong into this new venture, at least I'll get the learning curve out of the way while we look for our homestead to buy here in Colorado to set up industrial hemp farming and sustainable homesteading and trying to build it from the raw ground up including our processing into products like hempcrete, paper, cloth, hemp milk and hempfu, and biofuels. It's my dream/goal. Atm trying to see if I can raise my critters on a hemp/cannabis based diet alone with no commercial feed, but that might take me a year to get to that point.
Well, time to go do critter rounds and continue with my seed saving from my garden and go finish hanging mylar in the 14' indoor sealed grow area. I hope I don't fall off the ladder and hurt myself.
