The Old Folks Home

My vets deal primarily with cats dogs and cows and don't usually care to see anything else....
Even refused to see my neighbor's horse...
Completely clueless about my ferret ... I really like my vets but practicing in a tiny little village has left them a little specialized...
No one around here that I know would take a chicken to the vet.... I have yet to meet a chicken owner in person that has ever dewormed a bird, or even knew you should.... When a friends goat stepped on a nail And needed a tetanus shot they were reluctant to order it in.... Agh.... I will call them again and see if they've even found me worming or cocci medication, and of course I'll ask about them looking at the poop...

Here in the USA, we order stuff like that from Amazon, Jeffers or etc. Are most vet medicines restricted to prescription in Canada?

I think the weirdest thing someone called Karin about when she was on call was some sort of Corn Snake or something. It was egg bound, I think. After the phone call I think the owner decided to seek out a specialist

Karin has done squirrels, hamsters, miniature hedgehogs and even a ferret with a decapitated penis. But mostly it's cats, dogs and production animals. Some horses, although they tend to prefer specialists.

Almost all or actually I think all medications are restricted to a prescription... The only thing I can get a Feedstore is a water additive was a bit antibiotics in it... Something like rooster booster. I'm not even sure about my ability to order things, i'll have to do some research.

I almost went into my spiel about unnecessary antibiotic use, but I think I've done it too many times already. I'll just say "Yay for the Canadian way".

No it does make sense... A lot of people over use a lot of things... But some of us are educated enough to know when and when not to use different drugs on our animals....
That vet clinic will give me drugs without seeing my pets because they know I'm not an idiot... They've even given me ketamine before, let me tell you it was a lot of fun...

Just kidding! I gave my cat the ketamine....

Yeah, with antibiotics it's just that resistant strains of bacteria are more and more common, and new antibiotics aren't really being invented. Pretty soon we're going to be in trouble if the world doesn't start scaling back on the use of them.
