I cannot tell you the breed of the bird because (s)he was hatched from a Trader Joe's supermarket egg, so could be almost any sort of a hybrid. The black spots on yellow fuzz was what threw me, like perhaps an Austra White? I dunno.... But the pics are creating more confidence that I have an added pullet to the lay flock. (So now at 6)

I may do one more incubation and see if I can get the Marans and Welsummers that I originally was hatching for (want those dark eggs!). Will the guest bedroom ever be rid of chickens? The coop is designed for 10 birds.

California whites look like that.... they are egg laying machines as well.... so i hear.

I have in the past gathered duck down... :sick but not today..... Too much extra work

It is great though..... I will try to get some next duck we slaughter.


We do keep some chicken feathers for fly tyeing and hat ornaments.
