The Old Folks Home

My little house silkie IS broody! She's only lived here for 12 days and she went broody yesterday. Her eggs are not fertile; I'll be exchanging them for some flock eggs later today. I put two in front of her and she pulled them under her with her two. I'll give Miss Sparkle a few more brown and green eggs to incubate.

Oh, in Broody Mode, all flattened out, she could cover 8-10 bantam eggs or maybe 5 or 6 LF eggs.

It's funny; in retrospect I shouldn't have doubted she would go broody, because for three days before she decided to stay in the brooder bin on her eggs, all her vocalizations were that "broody off the nest" clucking, like she had something very important to do even while schlepping around in the house in her bedroom slippers (feathered feet). I thought, silly girl, you're not broody..... What are you nattering about?

......and then she was.
