The Old Folks Home

Y'all are reminding me about why I like living here so much. The back steps get a bit slippery every once in a while, but I haven't fallen down them in ages.

We are going to pitch in and get you gals some walkers to keep by the back door!

Hey, I'd welcome a walker right about now! Trying to step to a less slippery footing is tough on an incline, regardless of where I carry my "center of gravity."

I need to have pavers put down as steps from the garden gate to the driveway and coop people door. Don't need pretty, just need safe.

Very cute-- I thought they were lavs. Must be the splashes. Nice coloring.

OMG-- this made a random memory jump to the front of the track-- when my budnnies excaped I found them under an old log in a wooded area; I sure freaked out the first time sticking my arm in that black hole. Had a fuzzy surprise!! THe girls could always be found under that log-- no more worrying all night if they would make it thru the night

Hope yours is caught and safe-- guess I"ll know when I catcch up-- I'm sooo behind.

Actually, Escapee Bunny lives outside ever since her escape last year. Although I can get within a foot of her, or coax her to within a foot of me, she's always JUST beyond my fingertips. I captured her once but without a perfect grasp; when she screamed I let go. I'd never heard that horrifying sound from a rabbit. I put food and treats out where the flock cannot get it and make sure there are water sources she can reach. She goes in and out of the coop, hangs out with the chickens in one favorite part of the yard. I know she can get under the house if she needs shelter after the coop auto door has closed.

Of course, Lionhead rabbits are not seen much in the wild around here....;)

Orpingtons and Australorps are prone to fatty liver disease. Do not give those breeds white rice regularly. The liver ruptures and they bleed to death internally.

ron, it's you. I wondered who was giving out all of this good and important info. Like your new avatar.
Wow, I was just thinking about giving my chickens some rice. Will make sure it stays a once in a great while treat.

I fell again today on the ice, too. Yesterday it was directly on my left elbow. Today on my right hand/wrist.

I'm already sore from yesterday, I can't wait to feel my body tomorrow when I get up.

Ok, stop falling, and go this way next time. Walk around the ice.

Seriously..hope you aren't too sore. Be careful out there!

I'd walk around it if it wasn't all over my property. My one chicken gate is still frozen to the ground, so I have to go around to the other. Not a big deal. The goat gate, on the other hand, is one of only one gate... and when that gets frozen to the ground I have to climb over. That is not a sight to behold.

My property is very shady and hilly. A few degrees above freezing means it melts, and runs down and re-freezes in a new area. We had snow again yesterday afternoon, but only a coating, so you couldn't see the terrain. It was like a horrible game of minesweeper.

So far this morning, I only slipped once. And no falls. I took two naproxen before bed and honestly feel better than yesterday. I can feel something still going on, but I was able to get my coat on this morning without the weird little dance that I had to do yesterday on account of my sore arm.

We had freezing rain all night. The pavers in front of the coop door were a real treat especially since they are on a slope. The drive in to work was fairly uneventful but our parking lot was solid ice. I waited at the door to help a couple of my co-workers across the sidewalk. I dont think I was much help since I could barely stand up myself. They thanked my tho so that was worth it :)
Now the maintenance people are salting the sidewalks for the 9 to 5'ers .... Hard to make sense of that :(
