As someone who used to try to manage the contests for Dar's hatchalongs, I think this is capital punishment.

My wife has always hated when I corrected her grammar. I hate sounding stupid. Why wouldn't one want to know if they've used grammatically incorrect terms all their lives and sound stupid?

After all, it's your native tongue.

People in the US are on an English island. An often incorrect one.

I always fill out forms with "language preferred" as The Queen's English. Usually gets me a good laugh.

I've met some very good friends from the internet.

I find that it allows me to meet people with similar interests. Generally I connect better with them than the people I'm exposed to on a daily basis in my area.
