The Old Folks Home

Yes, I am in styrobator hades. I've been gifted two of them in the past week. My kitchen table looks like where incubators go to die.

I could bundle with a towel... that's my next step, but I'm hesitant to do it because it's holding temp. I've got the temp back up in the sucker, without eggs (although they just arrived and are in lovely condition), but the temp isn't going anywhere in the wiggler. I'm at a total loss. I generally am a rational, cogent, sentient human being but I am losing my marbles over this. It makes zero sense.

I've got no less than 5 thermometers in the LG right now. Between that and the 2 water bottles and the wiggler... there's hardly room for eggs.

The foam bators cannot keep up with temperature changes. They need to be in a temperature controlled space. When I was incubating with the Genesis 1588, I had them in a walk in closet with an electric heater. The heater has a thermostat so it can keep the room at a nice temperature.

The vents cannot be blocked at the bottom or top of the incubator.

thats why I went out of my way to find a syrofoam that was very thick walled to reduce that issue when I made my incubator

Good job and you had a great hatch!

I'm glad the horse is better, and such beautiful chicks hatching! Awesomeness on the new white bresse chicks!

The squirrels are vexing me and my flocks. I think I know where all my feed has been going. My bf mentioned setting the traps, but no traps have been set and I spent most of today yelling at squirrels.

The gumbo finally git made last night, only to find no file powder to be found

which made it not as good as it could be.

I use water wigglers at the level of eggs to test and fine tune bators as its really the internal egg temp that is most important.

I aim for a temp of 99.5F

Once the wiggler temp is stable, I finish messing with thermostat, regardless of temp readings on thermostat. - normally my digital thermostats will turn on at 99.3 and off at 99.8. The swing in temp is slightly higher as it takes a moment for heater to warm up cool down.
