A little bit of incubator update, I'll keep it brief.
I've got both the LG, a Genesis 1588 and the Brinsea. Honestly, the biggest difference is in the amount of maintenance and daily checking. The Brinsea is pretty much a set-and-forget (with the humidity pump) and I think that's the convenience you pay for. The Genesis I find checking twice a day, mainly on the humidity levels. The LG, well, it's an exercise in hovering. It holds the temps well once established, but is subject to too many fickle variables and, ergo, lots of checking on it.

Shipped eggs are always a gamble. However, I haven't noticed a difference in hatch rates overall in any of them. Just my $.02 It'll be interesting to see what your results show.

I didnt think I was wasting a post..and didnt always have something to say about current things being discussed and figured it was nice way to maybe inject myself into a convo or least not just be a lurker but apart of it :) thanks for the nice compliment lol that does make me feel bit better about posting stuff sometimes think my questions or idea's are either too ignorant or a nuisance, I just try to ignore those lil whispering devils on my shoulder and ask anyways lol
Amberjem, not a nuisance. At all, I have seen you on several threads and you are doing fine. Everybody was once a newbie and learning to navigate the forum. But it's so much fun to tell what you are up to. Questions? Somebody has always got an answer. Or maybe you have an answer for one of their questions. Even when I was brand new, I always had questions. That's how you learn. Don't ever lurk. Too many people out here that want's to be your friend.

Wisher... congrats to your son and deer is delicious. I just finished off the last of our deer chili this afternoon.

A little bit of incubator update, I'll keep it brief.

I split the shipped eggs fairly evenly between the Brinsea and the new LG. When uneven numbers and it fit, the extra went into the Brinsea. The Brinsea also got most of the (few) test eggs from my flock that I threw in to check for rooster effectiveness since I knew the Brinsea would be an accurate representation of actual fertility rate. I think I only put one in the LG.

The Brinsea had 25 eggs to start. Removed 6 today on candling for absolutely zero development. 76% development.
The LG had 15 eggs to start (well 16 but one ended up leaking the first day, sticking to the bottom rack and breaking when I tried to turn it, so I'm excluding that from the statistics). Removed 4 today on candling for absolutely zero development. 73% development.

I'd say at this point there's no significant statistical difference between the two incubators, considering the eggs weren't entirely equal. Most of the eggs that didn't develop were the leghorn eggs that I had shipped. Go figure. I let the seller know she likely sold me duds. Removing the leghorn eggs from the equation entirely since they were obviously duds, I had a 93% overall development from my eggs. Can't beat that.
I ended up last night with 2 Marraduna Basques and 2 Lemon Cuckoo Orphingtons. I'm still a newbie on this and had 2 that didn't make it out of pipping. Bummer. But I'll learn. That's 11 that went into lockdown. 4clears. before. Getting into this egg business I just wanted to buy what I could afford and go from there. I have a foam Farmers Innovators or something It's apparent that I will need to upgrade sooner than later. I have a handyman that hatches hundreds of quail in an OLD cabinet that someone gave him. I may ask him to hatch me some of the White Pymouth Rocks with it comes time. The slackers are still not laying. Eight months old and it's not that cold here in La.. Ron said that I didn't need to add lights. I guess I'll just wait them out. I do have a little super blue egg layer that started this week. Tiny blue eggs. Very light.
