The Old Folks Home

The troll was around a couple of months ago - I think they figured out that trolling the old folks wasn't as much fun as they thought it would be, so they went elsewhere.

eta - Oh, yeah, Wisher, now that's a rack that would make every jackalope sit up and take notice!

CC I switched to pine shavings... Had I done it when you suggested, I'd have saved myself and my birds some grief... well nobody ever accused me of being smart... actually it's not a smart thing it's a stubborn thing.
Next time I'll listen... Maybe... Like I said stubborn...

Peep, SCG has confided in me she is completely anti-VD so no heartsy quilts although I sent her a free pattern to use if she wanted.

Achem, I am also anti-VD, I am also not at all excited about Valentine's day either.

Why? Can you tell a difference?

Did you get them free from a sawmill?

I just picked up some giant, totally full black plastic trash bags of wood chips.... but I payed $5 a bag for the convenience.

Wisher... congrats to your son and deer is delicious. I just finished off the last of our deer chili this afternoon.

A little bit of incubator update, I'll keep it brief.

I split the shipped eggs fairly evenly between the Brinsea and the new LG. When uneven numbers and it fit, the extra went into the Brinsea. The Brinsea also got most of the (few) test eggs from my flock that I threw in to check for rooster effectiveness since I knew the Brinsea would be an accurate representation of actual fertility rate. I think I only put one in the LG.

The Brinsea had 25 eggs to start. Removed 6 today on candling for absolutely zero development. 76% development.
The LG had 15 eggs to start (well 16 but one ended up leaking the first day, sticking to the bottom rack and breaking when I tried to turn it, so I'm excluding that from the statistics). Removed 4 today on candling for absolutely zero development. 73% development.

I'd say at this point there's no significant statistical difference between the two incubators, considering the eggs weren't entirely equal. Most of the eggs that didn't develop were the leghorn eggs that I had shipped. Go figure. I let the seller know she likely sold me duds. Removing the leghorn eggs from the equation entirely since they were obviously duds, I had a 93% overall development from my eggs. Can't beat that.

were they huge bags of woodchips? I only ask cuz get super compacted ton of pine shavings from the feed store here for only 6 bucks..which would probly be more then a garbage bag of wood chips ?? lotta tree services will give you woodchips if you ask as well and have an area that supports a buncha companys..

oh man I never had deer chilli before I need to try this...

I haven't had cow in... boy... over 15 years so I can't tell you it's better than beef in your chili but it is delicious. We had our deer made up into a bunch of different styles but my favorites are the ground hamburger and the ground "italian style" sausage crumbles. Both are phenomenal in chili. I'm not a big fan of actual hunks of deer meat steaks but I'm going to try that crockpot thing someone mentioned a few weeks back (you shred the meat when you're done so there isn't a giant chunk).

super big giant black trash bags.

I can get wood chips for free if I pack them myself... but I just haven't felt up to that lately.
