The Old Folks Home

A WEEK. I would have swore it would take less time than that, or I wouldn't have started the teaser yesterday.

BF just took care of my Ginger, the other no-named internal laying chicken and the lame duck.
Ginger was such a sweet bird, but when I got home today she was resting on her wing and couldn't get up the stairs into the coop and someone had pecked her comb a bit (suspect: turkey). I hate this part of animal keeping. I know it had to be done, but I'm really going to miss my Ginger. She used to greet me every day and then when she got sick and could no longer get in the coop through the chicken door she'd have to wait for me to get the big person door open. I always looked forward to our little time. I feel relieved that she's no longer suffering, but she was just so sweet. It hurts and is sad no matter which bird it is, but when it's one of the special ones...

I'm going to be a wreck if Hoppy, Piggy, Tonya Harding, FatOne or Banty ever go. I can't imagine my life without those little imps.
SCG, I'm sorry for you're having to lose one of your favorites. I can only imagine how hard that must be.

It's not even comparable to your loss.

However, I feel much better today about it. I know it was absolutely the right thing to do. No more suffering. And no more tears.

We're getting rain today. Rain! Glorious, un-shovelable rain.

However, it's most certainly mud season here. Still don't have to shovel mud.

Yay, spring!

Tonight is the second class for raising bees. I finished the last of my friend's honey, and I'm on to commercial honey now with my daily apple. Ugggh, it is so different. I wonder why it's so much darker and less tasty? You would think that honey wouldn't be affected by "commercialism" like other things are (ie egg taste). I think my hive will come in tomorrow, too. Can't wait to try and put that puppy together.

What's everyone else been up to?

Ask at your bee class, but I read an article that claimed most honey, even Grade A, is adulterated in the US. It is chemically altered with sweeteners added and then somehow masked.

Costco claims that they certify their Honey for the Kirkland brand. I do not know if the claim is true, but the Kirkland Honey is one of the best tasting commercial honeys.

If socks are larval hangers, why am I always running out of hangers? Or do they just have a short lifespan? I'm going to need a lot more socks, then. And it's "a lot" there is no "alot" in the English language. I'll go put my nerd away, now. And try to get back to work.
It depends...in the 70s and 80s, there was a flourishing population of the wire-hanger species of sock, often footies with a pom-pom and tube-socks. Nowadays, the species that morphs into cruddy commercial hangers used at clothing stores appears to be ousting the other species in most regions. This abundant form tends to have a shorter, more accident/injury/disease-prone adult life, much like the hatchery chicken.
I have to rant just a little. I will not bore everyone with the details (and no this has nothing to do with SCG's secret) but I completely understand why people go "postal" on rare occasions. OK 'nuff said. Tomorrow will be better for sure

Amen to that. DiDi speaks the truth.
EEK! I thought I had blocked everyone from this thread from FB. You're a sneaky, sneaky little one Miss BeakHouse.

My cat's still IN the bag, right?
Indeed, but I shan't share my insights. I am very discreet. And discrete, for that matter.
Quote: I'm soooooo sorry. I lost Paulina Polish a couple of months ago, and that one really hurt almost as much as losing Professor. Now I'm really only uber-attached to the elderly three girls: Eliza, Owly, and CindyLouWho. I'm more guarded with the other 400+...

John The Contractor installed my new dishwasher on Sunday (25 bucks cheaper than HD charges for installation and far nicer to spend time putting up with him than some strange service personnel).

The machine came with a little bottle of rinse agent and two detergent "pods." I have used those... Must remember to buy more. Time to really use a shopping list because I don't have dishwasher machine stuff in my brain, having never had one before.

I have also discovered I don't need a drainer on the counter any more; hand washed stuff just gets tucked into the machine to drip dry. This is cool! I have more counter space now! AND the double sink is EMPTY!. Absolutely empty, I tell ya!

Now to go look for a magnetic dishwasher cover with chickens or a rooster on it (similar to the one I have on my fridge). I did see one with a nice botanical print on it, though... That might be pretty.

Because I bought this on sale, HUGE discount, I had to get one with the stainless steel front. I have other stainless steel thingies, like my microwave oven, Keurig coffee maker, electronic pressure cooker, so stainless steel is okay enough. But a pretty cover would be nifty.

Now that is good news! I love a nice clean counter top.

Debating whether to fly down to Richmond tonight or early tomorrow. My dad is in the process of being admitted to the hospital. Problem is at this point in time they're not sure if it's just constipation or a hernia with a necrotic bowel. He's too fat for most of the imaging. He may or may not need emergency surgery tomorrow.

I swear if I cancel my presentation tomorrow, take a day of leave and spend 500$ on a one-way plane ticket and then additional fee for a rental car, and it's constipation I'm going to

400??! Ok, I want to keep up with the BeakHouse's. I'm only at 44 now... or do I also count the larval stage (chicks) in my basement?

Which sock species became those puffy 80's hangers? You know the ones with neat designs on them and foam all through them? I miss the 80's. Things were so much simpler then. While I love the convenience of the internet age, I hate being able to be reached anywhere, anytime, by multiple methods. Although it's a love-hate relationship.
