The Old Folks Home

Okay, let's change the subject more to diva's liking.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? And have you ever made homemade ice cream?
1-Double chocolate almond and strawberry cheesecake
2-We made some in ziploc baggies when the kids were little.

I found a super easy recipe, you mix whipped cream with powdered sugar, add whatever flavorings you want in it and throw in the freezer. It's not quite ice cream, but pretty close. It's delicious when you boil some sugar and cream together to make "kinuski", and then chop up some nuts and the cooled kinuski into it. Also works well with chocolate, or strawberries, or pretty much anything.
sounds yummy

Wow you are all making me really want ice cream. I have been "behaving" since New Years to shave off the pounds that have been creeping back on in the past year. I wasn't pigging out but apparently my metabolism has slowed since menopause set in and just smelling food counts as calorie intake as far as my thighs are concerned. ;) DH stops having a nightly beer or two and drops five pounds easy. I deny myself most treats, eat hardly anything and hit the treadmill for a half hour at least five days a week and I slooooooooowly peel off five pounds. Finally I have started seeing that number go down but it was discouraging at first to see the number fluctuate up and down while I am really trying to lose the weight.
SCG congratulations on the new chicks! :weee
I finished up my first "full sized" (actually it would be good for a twin size bed) quilt. Pretty happy with the results. Front and back

This is Gorbachick....

Get it?
(Folks on another thread probably too young to get the connection...went over like a lead balloon)
20 years ago I was walking the kids home from the bus stop and the next door neighbors had thrown away a Gorbachev mask that was laying on top of their trash can. It was perfectly good so I took it home and the next Halloween I wore a 3 piece suit and the Gorby mask. I still have it.

By the way, is that a map of Albania on the chicks head?

Still no pip.. but the eggs are still wiggling on occasion, which I take as a good sign.

We're getting in spores for wellington oyster mushroom, shitake and lionsmane later this week to begin growing our own mushrooms. 2 bee packages have been ordered, next is the hives.

We have broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, red leaf lettuce, basil, ghost peppers, scorpion peppers, cayyenne peppers, jalapeño peppers started from seed. Our huge order from baker creek came in, and well. I can't contain myself lol.
I have 10 Pene eggs due to hatch Saturday and 4 olive eggers due next week sometime.

Who are you getting your bees from?

I'll be ordering mushroom plugs pretty soon. Shitake and blue oyster for a sweetgum I'm taking down. My neighbor just cut down a pine tree and I need to talk to him to see if I can cut up the trunk for Chicken of the Woods, Phoenix Oyster, Turkey Tail.
I have 2 large live elm stumps one 5' and one almost 10'. I'm planning on girdling them and inoculating one with reishi and the other with lion's mane.

I have lots of seed left over from last year so I won't be buying much. I have about 12 different kinds of heirloom tomatoes.
No pips here, either. And nothing is rocking.
I might move the first batch to the hatcher today. Hopefully I can get the cabinet rebuilt in time for the next batch.

I have a hard enough time putting them in the pot.

same here

I just read something about lobsters being able to crawl for up to three minutes after you've killed them. A bit similar like a snake's body will still move for several minutes after it's been decapitated.

The production lines might not be "recognized breeds", but there are probably ten times more of them than there are pure breed birds. Hy-Line W-36 and Hy-Line Brown being the most popular ones.
There was a TV show this week about poisonous snakes. It showed a guy chop the had off of a copperhead. The tail kept wiggling until it got close to the head and the head then bit it's severed tail and hung on till it stopped wiggling.

CC: Just saw on the news about the FBI investigation in Furguson being finished. Are you guys bracing for more drama?
We don't expect much ruckus. Probably because it wasn't an untrusted local entity that did the investigation. All the conversation about community relations with law enforcement have been in the form of town hall meetings. That's not a great venue for criminal elements.

It's been pretty quiet except for the nightly murders, car thefts and smash and grabs.

Lol I usually wake up at 5am to watch Robin Meade on HLN. She is smoking hot. (Sorry babe...). And she reads the news...At 6am I click to fox news to laugh at those idiots. Those folks need help for real...
Then I also watch our local 12:00 noon news
Then our local news at 5
National news at 5:30
Wsfa (montgomery al) news at 6
Then family fued
I'm usually up between 3 and 5. I'll turn on CNN or ABC for some world news and then BBC at 5 for quality news reporting.
I do watch Fox occasionally to see how creatively they can blame any world event on Obama.
Then local news counting murders till the Daily Show comes on at 8.

Love Steve Harvey.

Just read that Paris is contemplating suing Fox for libel.

idiots (Fox i mean - I love Paris)
Is that why they apologized for fabricating the NO GO zones?

Honestly I rarely ever know what day it is...
I have my phone alarm set for 6:45 on Thursday AM so I won't forget to take the trash and recycling to the street. That's about the only day I need to keep track of.

Hi Sswanee welcome to the Old Folks home, you don't have to be old to join. This is a great, friendly thread, and topics seem to change by the minute. You can pop in any time if you want to change the subject. I'm hoping we have finished the live, crawling food bit. I don't like seafood to start with - except canned (dead) tuna.

Let me think if I can come up with some other food to gross you out.

How about monkey brains, from a live monkey.
You can always wash it down with ice cream.
thank you :) I reall like the pale blueish color... I think luna might turn out to be a luno though lol...seems like the comb is pinkening up
The only blue chickens I've had were blue Jersey Giants. I sold most but the last one was taken by a raccoon.

Okay, let's change the subject more to diva's liking.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor? And have you ever made homemade ice cream?
black cherry and Baskin Robbins World's Fair Chocolate. It's a blend of white chocolate and regular chocolate.

I've only made homemade a couple times. What a hassle.

It's been excruciating here. BF texted me a pictured of the first pip around 1100. Got home and more pips but nothing advanced. Finally went to bed. Got up around 0100 and saw the first one had just wiggled free of its shell. 3 more are out since then.
That's why my incubators are in the cellar. I have a hatch countdown/countup timer sitting by the computer monitor so I can keep track of when they have to go to the hatcher. http://incubatorwarehouse.com/egg-incubator-timer.html

just instincts coming up... hrmm what about a blow horn they are sensative to noise maybe when approachs you blast it might help deterr

I had a dog training video that recommended a throw can. I have seen the throw can work. They recommended taking a can with a lid and putting rocks or some thing that makes a lot of noise and when the dog is doing something that you want to break him of yell at the dog and throw the noisy device at it. They recommended hiding and jumping out and yelling at the dog and throwing the can at it. That was for things like chasing cars so it should work on chickens.
