The Old Folks Home

The chick is still stuck in the egg! I just got up, kinda. The stupid ac roos were having a sing a long crowing contest several times throughout the night. I'm so frazzled!

My hydrometer is calibrated, but idk how to calibrate my incubators. I have 2 dozen ee eggs from my flock in the janoel. I use the hovabator for hatching (only 2 so far, I have no clue what I'm doing, only that I have tossed out 16 eggs so far out of 65.

I really suck at hatching so far, which is upsetting b/c I paid quite a bit for these white bresse hatching eggs in lockdown.

The chick made a little bit of progress while I slept, but not a ton. Wtd now? :( :(

So sorry about your chicks SCG!

Geez, your scaring me from trying hatching. Definitely going to try some of my own eggs before I buy any, and more research...

Yeah, it's a good idea to start with some mutt eggs or something and work out the kinks. That way you know that any possible problems with the valuable eggs are either due to fertility issues, or too old eggs.

Once the weather warms up a little so my eggs are not freezing I'm going to try some of my welsummer eggs. The only eggs I'm getting that I can tell are fertile are the Easter eggers? I'm not sure about the wellies or leghorns. :-(

do you know what your humidity is? the chick that is stuck how is the membrane looking is it still white or is it starting to brown have you dampened it to keep it moist?

Kathy, sorry when I thought you had blackhead in turkeys, rather than your peafowl. I guess the word blackhead triggers thoughts of turkeys. What a sad situation. I hope you will be able to save your peas.

Thanks. Have also had it in turkeys, but all my turkey are grown now, so I don't see it as often in them.
