Poor Dobby got frost bitten badly last week and though I've been keeping an eye on him and it seemed to be getting better this morning DD found him on the floor of the coop covered in blood. His wattles are swollen and either he was attacked by the other roosters or he tore it scratching because one wattle is ripped open. The other looks infected. He was also muddy from head to toe. I brought him inside and gave him a warm bath and then poured peroxide in the open wound. He won't stop shaking his head unless I am petting him. I sat in front of the wood stove with him until he was mostly dry and then hand fed him the rest of my breakfast...eggs, grits and half of a banana. He drank a lot of water. He's now asleep in the living room in a big box with a blanket draped over it. He ate some chick crumbles and some of my greens for dinner.
He fell asleep on my lap during dinner.
When Beekissed was around she recommended caster oil rubbed on to the frost bite... Soothes and promotes circulation.
