The Old Folks Home

Forty plus years ago, three young mothers in our church group died and left young children at home. My mom saw how difficult the father's lives were with trying to work, take care of the kids and homes so she decided that we should learn how to do the dishes, laundry and cook. Later, after getting married and having kids, since we both worked and I got home before my wife I did all the cooking and things worked out well for everyone. Unfortunately, I didn't do as well with my kids, but they learned and both know how to keep a clean home!

Oh trust me, I am not letting you have the maps. I know how to read them and they stay with me. This of course means that you can't run off if I want to get a picture of you!

She won't be able to hide behind the map, either.

I honestly don't like having my picture taken very often either but I don't mind on occasion and I usually don't care what I look like because it is one of those moments when you can't believe you are where you are at the time.

Silly Goose! I've seen pictures of you, you look great. I have seen DiDi in person, she looks great. I show pictures of myself now, and I didn't used to want to..and I don't look so great anymore. Go figure...yeah, where did that figure go anyway?

My aunt Vera made the best tomato gravy in the universe!  She started with brown gravy, made from the bacon drippings.  Then added the tomatoes, juice and all, and reduced it back down.  The result was a creamy brown gravy that tasted like tomatoes and had delicious chunks of tomato throughout.  Her son, my cousin, had all the KFC franchises in the state and they taught the cooks to make it and served it on the breakfast buffets.  I could never get enough of it.  Sadly, she died, the business was passed on to his son, and the breakfast bar was discontinued.  I wish (there I go again) I could make it like she could.....

Any realation to the one who one the KFC in Selma?

I feel safe if i went on hiatus for a week my 5 yr old could sucessfully take care of her self of course she wouldn't clean and would wear princess dresses all week but she could definitely feed herself.

I don't know if Jack still owns that store or not, I know he has greatly reduced the number of stores he owns. I remember when I was a teen hearing my dad say to my mom, "Well, Jack sold Birmingham." I looked up and said, "And I didn't even know he OWNED Birmingham!" I had a smart mouth back then.......
