The Old Folks Home

I sold some Pene eggs to a BYC member on the Missouri thread. She picked them up when she came to my processing class. She just PMed me saying they were due to hatch tomorrow. One is out, one is pipping and one is rocking.

I guess I should have paid closer attention. I'll have to Google and read about them. I have a question about hatching eggs in the same coop with other chickens. I have a broody on 9 eggs right now and I think she will take care of herself but wondering what anyone thinks. I hate to move her but will if I have to.

It can work fine as long as she is not the lowest on the pecking order!

Hiya, @Sswanee48 , we've got weatherless weather here, same as it's been a few weeks now. 1-3 deg C (33-37F), no rain, no sun, just endless cloud cover. I'm going insane. At least the snow is melting, about half of our yard is clear by now.

Ron, thanks for the info. My EE is the broody and she is actually up high in the pecking order so that's a relief. She is definitely a protective mama.

Vehve, it's been pretty sunny here but they are forecasting snow for the net 4 days. I wouldn't care about the weather if it wasn't for the chickens. I worry about them but cold weather doesn't seem to bother them. When it has been really cold they still come out and act like it's spring out there. The only thing I'm concerned about now is my Broody. I didn't realize how much stress chickens can put a person through. They sure a lot of fun though. It's my own fault about the broody. I felt sorry for her because she wouldn't leave the nest and so I went and got her some eggs. Of course I didn't have to get her 9 of them. I candled them one time and it looks like they are all doing well. I have a new candler and it showed lots of moving. I'm thrilled about that.
