Found this posted by New York State Fair, when I first read it I thought it was just the state fair, nope all county ones also. I think their jumping the gun, our Delaware County fair is in August, the state is end of Aug into Sept. There has been no AI in NY. A lot of 4H kids are going to be disappointed. Many of them make a lot of $.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has issued an order banning all live fowl competitions at the Great New York State Fair and at all county fairs in New York, Commissioner of Agriculture Richard A. Ball announced today. The order is the direct result of the continuing spread of strains of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Midwest. Current Influenza Strains are No Threat to Humans.

Well, I had promised a Phoenix to a lady in NY for her 4H kid. Guess I need to find it another home. I need to contact her and see if she wants it anyway. She said her son had been wanting one for a while.

I do understand the disappointment - but we have had to make similar calls regarding exhibiting animals during different years due to various issues as different years seem to bring concerns for different species. Sometimes I think a blanket policy coming from authorities is necessary because, unfortunately, not everyone has common sense about things to make the call for themselves (not saying those who might exhibit poultry this year are lacking common sense, more of a general observation from the condition of animals I have seen brought for exhibition overall) - and in this case I think it's more likely to become official policy than a personal call because of the impact AI is having on the commercial industry.

I went to the next biggest city earlier this week... I stopped to grab a donut. they had a big sign on the door that said "We have Moose poop here"

I could find some fresh stuff....

I don't know if Moose poop is good fertilizer but Llama beans are. It might come in useful.

I know someone who made Road apple birds... Called them S*** Birds.... Apple body couple of feathers pipe cleaner leggs and neck and little googly eyes. Sold em for five bucks

of course the apple was dried and laquored but totally identifiable...

I WAS very grateful, and I thought that I was being respectful.... Not that **I** would ever wear moose poop jewelry... but for some crazy reason, it IS a big selling item here.
