The Old Folks Home

I haven't had roasted marshmallows since I was a young kid, that's why having kids around is so good for older folks(like me). I can do things and pretend it's just for the kids - yeah right. I never went sledding till I took my young son. I loved it, of course before he came along, we didn't have any even minor hills around and I never had sled.

I had a productive day. We put up five panels for the hoop coop. Tomorrow, I will figure out what to do about the ends and get some pics. I also got some sun on my shoulders and back. Then I took a nap and when I woke up, I pulled a pork butt (fundraiser purchase) and made baked beans and potato salad. I am also working on some home made BBQ sauce, but I put too much vinegar in it. Anyone have any suggestions other than doubling the other ingredients?

MMM, roasted marshmallows! S'mores! All the things I love but wouldn't bother with if it wasn't for the kids. Your right diva, great excuse to do what we used to love to do.
Can't wait until my 2yr old boy, three come July is old enough to go hunting. I might waste time and get away and deer hunt still, but I really miss running rabbits with a beagle. It's been work work work, bills bills bills, fix house, cars, work! The boy will get a beagle as soon as he is able to keep both ends of a .410 shotgun off the ground and carry it like a man!
The oldest girl was interested in hunting (I think just because she wanted to best her boy 'friends' on F book), but doesn't like to be away from Wi-Fi and her stupid device that is attached to her. Next girl loves animals so much she would be a vegan if she didn't like eating meat so much, wants to be a veterinarian, the oldest is into law, not sure what she wants to do yet but in the law profession. Blahhh! I don't know where they get their smarts from but they are at the top of their class, oldest has been on Superintendent's list, high high honor roll whatever that means, all through middle and high school only has two years left and talks about graduating a year early! NO! I can't deal with that now! I don't want to pay for college! I NEED a Harley!

Next girl, she's a monster, might get to buy her a good beagle and make her my boy

she is six and my "You have to take me fishing or else!" girl. Scary monster that tries our patience, Gramma said well you don't expect them to be all the same do you? Next girl scares me, so pretty she thinks she is a princess, AND already reads and writes and adds better than I do! At four! Taking after her two oldest sisters, 'no shut up put the book down and go play with some Barbies!' Then the four yr old plays with the two almost three yr old only boy and is teaching him to read, NO! He's my only boy, boys are supposed to be dumb, please just let him be a boy and go hunting with dad!

6. The Food is Too Acidic/Sour

Sometimes when I make salad dressing, I go a bit overboard on the vinegar and when I taste it, my face puckers up. Too much vinegar means too much acid and too much sour taste. The best way to counterbalance too much sour is to add sweet, salty or savory flavors. That too-sour Creamy Lemon-Herb Dressing gets a hit of sugar or agave and suddenly, my mouth transforms from pucker to a smile. This is the same reasoning for adding carrots to a tomato sauce like this Marinara Sauce – the sweet carrots balance the acidic tomatoes. Adding salt can also help – think margaritas and salt. When making a stir-fry sauce, if you add too much brown rice vinegar, adding more soy sauce will bring the sauce back to delicious. Soy sauce also fits into the savory/umami category as does ketchup which some people think balances everything.

I would say cooking it will cook out the vinegar some but adding sugar or salt seems to help counteract it.... But since its Barbeque sauce I would just ad some more catusp to taste. or tomato paste...

There is a whole genra of barbeque sauces that are very vinegary.... good for pork or fatty foods.

If you make soup and it is too salty, is there a way to draw some salt out? I remember reading (I think) that if you throw in a slice of raw potato that does the trick? Anybody know if that is true? Course I'd hate to waste a slice of potato that I could otherwise bake for lunch. Maybe I could find a potato donor.

I would use diced potato... or Microwave one of those thin skinned potatoes till its done and smash it up and add the whole thing to your soup... Great thickener. Or add cream if you have it.

Yes, my mom throws in a raw potato when she over salts and it works
