The Old Folks Home

You knew this had to happen to someone, didn't you? All that talk about power outages, it's as bad as Sour's broody dance - somebody's gonna pay . . . . .

We got thunderstomped for the second time in two days tonight. With our daytime highs in the upper 90's and the humidity nearly there, it's not surprising; the atmosphere is really juiced. But these were pretty intense storms, with an amazing amount of lightning (my DS checked the graphic of the latest lightning strikes on his phone and remarked, "I think we're being carpet zapped.") and torrential rain.

Apparently, one of the bolts hit something significant, because tonight it knocked out the power. The power went off around 7:00, and when Hubby called the power company around 8:15 to get an estimate on when they expected to get it fixed, he was evidently the first to report the outage. The lights didn't come back on until nearly midnight, so I guess they must have had a busy night .

So, we had what we consider a little "hurricane aftermath preparedness drill." The generators work: extension cords were located without too much fuss. We even made pizza using a toaster oven (foodie purists, look away), so as far as we are concerned, we passed!

oh no - not the "slotted spoon!"

What? No wood burning stoves?

No hauling water with a slotted spoon!!

No, no, the slotted spoon is what you use to get the tadpoles out of the water. Silly Alaskan!

And you're from Texas - what part of "highs in the upper 90's and the humidity nearly there" would make you think we'd want to get within 100 feet of a wood-burning stove?! (though we do have a gas-fired one)
