I usually sow the seeds very close together. You can eat it raw like baby spinach. Be sure to harvest the turnip roots if you thin those. Collards will eventually need to be thinned to about 1 plant per 12 inches

Then I've definitely planted them too close. Yours is the closest row to the fence, split into 3 for the 3 types you sent.

Great photos. I love seeing these places through your lens - it's as good as the "picture feature" articles in the National Geographic. Almost makes me wish I could be hiking with you, except that I might have to be hauled out on a stretcher. I'd be so engrossed looking at all the awesome scenery, I'd probably forget to watch where I put my feet!

There was just a story on local TV about that heavy rain and flood a couple days ago. It was one of the suburbs just a bit south of here that got 2.5" in 45 minutes and had 4 to 5 feet of water running down the street.
Two families told their story.
One guy had just spent $60k remodeling is basement. The water filled it to the ceiling. There was a $5k pool table ruined. They found a 3' long fish after the water receded.
Another family had rebuilt their home after it was destroyed by fire a couple years ago. They took refuge on their bed as the flood waters swirled through the house. They could see fish swimming by their bed.
The pictures of the fish left behind in the homes were amazing.

I caught 4 squirrels yesterday and fed them to the chickens. I just caught another one. ETA Make that 2.
I guess I'll never bother going squirrel hunting again. Just go out with a bucket of sunflower seeds, a conibear trap and wait.

Trust me, if I haven't been hauled out on a stretcher yet, you'd be fine. Ask Dsqard how many close calls I've had. I can be standing on the top of a rock and then just almost fall over.

I guess I'll never bother going squirrel hunting again. Just go out with a bucket of sunflower seeds, a conibear trap and wait.

Are you trapping red or grey squirrel? Only red are legal to trap around here. I am really hoping to get some weasels this year (white) and try to make a muff.

Happy 4th of July everyone! e DH and I did the hike to lower Calf Creek falls yesterday then I did the hike to the upper falls in the afternoon. DH was done hiking at that point. Today I have hired an outfit to take me to the trailhead for Neon Canyon (SCG I just had to do it). I hired them because our passenger car would never make it there as you have to have 4WD to get there. I would have rented a Jeep but it was less expensive to just have them drive me out there and then pick me up later.

Thank you I love the pictures. I miss California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. I was not born and raised there. I was born and raised here. But I felt more at home there. I would write more singing the praises but i must tend to animals. Running late today. Wild animals outside kept these inside stirred up all night so I did not sleep Well. I did sleep Well From around 6-8 this morning.

Bunny I feel a real affinity for horsetail ferns too. Mainly because I used to see them all the time when I was a kid growing up in Maine and I think it is so cool that they are about the most primitive type of plant you can find. Still think it is neat that they (or very close relatives of them) were around when the dinosaurs were around. Also, believe me if I haven't killed DH yet, I probably wouldn't kill or seriously maim you. Ask SCG, I might hike all over the place but it takes me a while. I have to stop a lot to take pictures.

Greys. They have taken over and reds are very uncommon now. We used to have a lot of reds (fox) at the farm but I haven't seen one in years.

In answer to Cynthia's earlier question about eating them. Missouri hunters take between 1.5 and 3 million squirrels each year. That's a lot of meat (in small portion sizes).

I always thought horsetails were cool too for the same reason.
I have a water garden that takes all the water from the roof and routes it to a small pond about 40 feet from the house. I found some dwarf horsetail that I thought would do well along with other marsh plants. The horsetail has taken over.

I used to follow Philippine politics. Especially the run for presidency of Corazon Aquino following the assassination of Benigno. That after the soap opera of the Marcos presidency.

The US set the date as July 4

The Philippines celebrates June 12 - When Aguinaldo declared independence from Spain, but it was then a US colony until July 4, 1946

July 4 is Philippine American Friendship Day
