I also meant my posts in a nice way... FWIW, I sometimses do use heating pads, just not like the way that thread showed, which I did think was clever.

I Like the brooder plate too... Brooder plate makes alot of sense... But you have to understand there are also other options.

The idea behind any kind of heat plate.... or pad it doesn't matter.... is to brood chicks in a space that is as close to the normal environment as possible. The title Mama heating pad is unfortunate to those of us who are very analytical.

If you had read a bit more many are raising their chicks out in the coop rather than bundled up in a box or plastic tub.... The warm and cool areas someone was talking about here are very good ideas. They are finding the chicks fledged faster and are more robust and ready to join the flock quicker.... outside of dietary needs Which can be done with a creep feeder.... They are off heat quicker too.

No matter the heat source.... Heck my Grandpa used Kerosine lanterns to brood 100 chicks at a time... outside where they can run about do big chick stuff while being safe has got to be a good idea...

With regard to all the rest: Safety, cleanliness, appropriate heat.... they can and have been addressed in discussion...

I apologize back at you both... for being too sensitive...

This week has been a trying one here at "Grandmas" house . She turns 99 on the 16th and shes obsessing about money and her will.... Cousins Dropped in unannounced from back east yesterday. one hours notice and i had a flurry of house cleaning to do ahead of schedule, Mom doesn't drive so I had to finish that and pick up mom to bring her over for the visit.... Then my son got mad at me because I was "hurrying him along" and he left in a huff. It was a short but sweet visit thank goodness and when I offered to cook chicken for dinner... Mom just said 'Oh Yukk' so we ordered pizza. (I am not a bad cook) I let my son take her home after dinner.

Now other cousins are coming tomorrow from 'Berdu short notice for us is two days before hand

Thank goodneass the house is clean now.... and today Grandma decided she wanted a pedicure (I got one too so that was good)... Pedicure means loading Grandma in the car loading her walker then then unloading her (no handicapped in front of the store ) Watching her precariously lift her walker up over the curb (She wont let me help her)... I stand behind to catch if she needs it. Then unload my own walker and go in to join her....

I cooked the chicken tonight and was vindicated by all the yumms and lip smaks....

So I am accustomed to being dismissed.... and sometimes I just snap.... me saying 'fine' was a snap

Yes, hard week all around--we are about to get the referral to UCSF for parathyroid tumor removal. It has been more than a ten year journey. We had to see a surgeon at the local hospital yesterday to say that they did not do the minimally invasive surgery there so that we could get an out of network referral....The tumor was found using a nuclear scan and the family DR. was still against surgery. We had to do an end around.

The Premier plate works the same, it can be used in a coop--it is good to below 32F. The chicks feather out faster and the chicks are more robust.

Anything you can say about the heating pad nest applies to the brooder plate. You do not have to fiddle, it is set for the correct temperature for chicks and may even do at least one thing that the heat pad does not do. The design is to have the chicks push up into the plate to get heat, so they develop their legs better. I have had this fix some leg problems without using tape.
