The Old Folks Home

Goooood morning old folks.

Got presumptive diagnosis of Lyme last night. Luckily I don't have Bell's Palsy like BF does. His hasn't improved and he's still not able to talk well or see out of his one eye. Hopefully he gets better soon.

Ron, how's your wife holding up after the surgery? I saw the initial update immediately following surgery, but it's been almost a week, now. How is she?

That is all kinds of horrid!

I greatly prefer the ticks when I was a kid.... Bunches of them, but none were diseased.

OK, since food has been the go to of late, I plan to eat late... working 11-12 hour days doesn't make for early dinners. Have a pork shoulder roast in the oven right now that should be done right about 9:30pm. Coated with seasoned flour (flour <obviously>, Lowery's seasoned salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and a little accent) and a little water added for moisture. 45 minutes before it's done I'll throw in a bowl of scalloped potatoes w/parsely, chive and black pepper. Then when it's done I'll have me a midnight snack before bed, toss and turn for a few hours, then get up at 5 and start another work day. Have I become predictable? I need to retire again... Gettin' too old for this...

I did sixty hour weeks once.....

made it through a month before I started getting psychotic... ten hour days six days a week... Tooling Contract for the 777.... When I started it was four tens... Awesome three day weekens Id do it in a nanosecond... then they added day five.... then day six... OT is over rated too. Pops you into a much higher tax bracket.

Have you tried doing the same roast in the crock pot? OMG...

Why'd you un-retire? Today I'm commuting down to Portland to work, then back up here for class, then tomorrow I work 8 hours at my regular job then walk over to my other department and work another 8 hours. I need to retire.

Exactly. The ticks were bigger then, too. Maybe a different species?

Yup, the work psychosis is fun, isn't it? My work gives me comp time, not overtime, which is nice from a tax standpoint and an extra vacation standpoint, in theory. But if I'm needed to work all the extra time, when do I get to take it off?

When I started at Ford it was 58 hour weeks. 5:30 PM to 4 AM Mon-Fri and 3:30 to Midnight on Saturday. That went on for about 13 years. It really cuts into your social life.
I soon realized back in the 70s that there was nothing to do when you got off work. Did you know the zoo isn't open at 4AM? Nor is the theater, symphony, botanical garden, concerts, restaurants, libraries, opera, museums, church, parks, stores, et. al.. There wasn't even anything on TV at that hour. You could go to sleep or go fishing.
Then I got into skilled trades and either worked seven 8 hour days or seven 12 hour days, mostly evening or midnight shifts - for the next 20 years.

No wonder I'm so anti-social.

I got a new zoom lens yesterday to get better bird shots. My chickens and turkeys were my guinea pigs yesterday to try it out. Love how sharp this lens is.

SCG You rang! What can I do for you? Too hot to send ice cream.

I conked out mid- BYC yesterday after cutting branches and small trees down - the worst part is hauling them to the street. Then I decided to spray weeds with a new hose. Somehow I thought I would need 120 ft. so bought hose at Sam's club. Turns out I could also reach the midpoint of the guy behind me's yard. I still can't get it all unrolled and it's gonna be a devil of a job getting the water out of it for winter storage. Yikes!

Glad it works for you Ron

I have trouble sleeping also I have taken tylenol pm for many years and a couple years I took Ambien. I think they all stop working eventually and I have to change up to something else.

I kicked carbs to the curb!!!! And then started sleeping great. Could get up at night to let the dog out, but learned to lean against the door to thier yard AND NOT lay down until they were back in. Only then walk back to bed, and be almost asleep by the time I entered the room. Zombie walk to the bed. lol

I can awake to tend to children, dogs, or chicks, then back to bed and out like a light.

FYI--Screen time messes with the brain sleeep hormones. ANd keep to a schedule for time to sleep and time to awake. Weekends and vaca too.
