The Old Folks Home

I kicked carbs to the curb!!!! And then started sleeping great. Could get up at night to let the dog out, but learned to lean against the door to thier yard AND NOT lay down until they were back in. Only then walk back to bed, and be almost asleep by the time I entered the room. Zombie walk to the bed. lol

I can awake to tend to children, dogs, or chicks, then back to bed and out like a light.

FYI--Screen time messes with the brain sleeep hormones. ANd keep to a schedule for time to sleep and time to awake. Weekends and vaca too.
I read an article this week about healthy eating. Can you guess what it said about carbs? It said that regardless of what some say, Carbs need to be the number one source of calories in your diet. If not, you will have health problems...We are not talking about simple carbs but carbs. Whole grain carbs should be your number one calorie source each day.

The point is that you cannot be healthy if you cut out completely a food group. One suggestion I have seen was to eat whole grain carbs and add protein to each meal in the day. It works slowly but we need to work slowly or we will not get better--The stats on morbidly obese going back to normal wait is very disturbing--something like less than 5% will ever get there.

I have a new pair of computer glasses that cuts out blue I think. It is supposed to help with screen time messing you up.

A little late in commenting. . .

My issue with sleep started years ago. But now I have to be flexible.... so I get my sleep usually in two doses one at night and one in the afternoon.... Loosing weight will help and I have already lost almost eight pounds. I tried low carb but I like veggies and fruit too much. So I went with Weight Watchers... Yay... Love the new program and its been two and a half weeks now. officially this past monday I am down 7.8 pounds.... I am beginning to move more now... and feel a bit less pain in my knees.

At sixty years old I had given up... my brain still tells me I am 40... I am going for that.

Ron in defense of low carb eating... Yep its unbalanced... but eating unbalanced is how many of us got as heavy as we are. I read Atkins books and understand how the process works... and it did work for me when i followed the induction phase of the diet.
My son when he was seventeen he was almost four hundred pounds... he asked me how to loose weight... ME who has failed every diet I have ever started then gained back the weight I lost PLUS an additional twenty pounds... I told him cut back on carbs... to no more than a hundred per day... READ every label on packaging... If you take a look at the carbs then at the fiber (fiber is carbs as well) then subtract the fiber from the carbs and gives you NET carbs... Those are the ones to keep track of.

He lost 200 pounds and kept it off for the most part for the next five years. It took him off Metformin and put him in a position to move more and have more self confidence. By the time he was ready for college he was healthy physically.

But I am In agreement with your point of view as well Its Not a balanced diet... and Grains and carbs should be on an active persons menue... they give you energy and micro nutrients. If anything a Paleo lean on good balanced diet is my goal. all fresh and unprocessed unless its processed by me.

Each person is different... Some people gain weight on air... some burn it off just by breathing... sigh... I am one of those "easy keepers"

I have a Nabu by Razor. It says I slept 7:19 last night. 93% deep sleep, which is 6:47. 7% was light sleep, or 32 minutes.

I take a chewable melatonin a half hour before I go to bed.

I have a son that will use this, he really likes it when he needs it. Better than sleeping pills, they stay with you for too long the next day.

I did atkins too--But it did not provide a long term or sustainable weight loss. Most diets are like that.

Check into the new study on Morbidly obese--It is not very encouraging.

Your diet is still about 45 to 65% carbs right? That is what is meant by most of your calories comes from carbs. 10 to 35% should be protein. We also do need calories from fat.

Weight Watchers isnt a diet... Its a lifestyle change... they work on Shifting that Paradigm.... to health and focusing on portion control. I am not living on carbs though. They make me hungrier. At least the complex ones do... So fruits and veggies are pretty much unlimited with only a few exceptions. complex carbs are counted... like bread and pasta and sugar....

But everything is allowed... even chocolate....

Yes! I think weight watcher is a great way to go.

Chocolate is important for sure too!

Oh and for what its worth I AM morbidly obese and trying to succeed in loosing a whole other person. My goal is to loose 219 pounds... and that will put me at a decent weight of 151....

Believe me I know and have read and have investigated every "diet" I could get my hands on. Right now I just want to survive... and have a healthy old age.

Taken this week I am sitting on my walker.

This was incredibly hard to share but I think its appripro to the conversation

Thanks for sharing!

It is a struggle. I am in the obese range but not morbidly obese. I need to lose about 30 to 35 pounds.

With the work you are doing, I think you have a very good chance of getting to a healthy weight.

I too am in the obese range - I'm only -5' tall (like 4'11") at 68 I can't get away with the "I'm pg" bit. I need to lose 40-45 lbs. When you are a mini person with a super sized physique every pound shows. My knees and hips cannot take lugging me around. A few more lbs. and I'm sure I'll have to use the wheel chair lift on the senior bus.
