The Old Folks Home

Scg I would also like to know how your class goes I can't draw either.

I only have a few laying hens left. And quit a bit of my runs are covered for shade. I am crossing my fingers here.

Very cute picture of Maddie! She must be so excited for the start of school. I know I loved the beginning and the end of the school year when I was her age.

SCG you will do fine with your fabric painting class if you don't try to be perfect at it. Painting, drawing or any kind of creative art (including sewing) is not a science you can attack with a formula. You can start with a plan but leave room for changes as you go. When I get unexpected changes, if I just let it go and see how it flows, usually it is an improvement. Sometimes it calls for starting over I will agree. Most of the reason I didn't want to start our "death" table runner was because I had an image in my head how I wanted it to come out and I was afraid the reality would not meet my expectations. I was very happy with the outcome though once I got going on the design. :D

The pic of Maddie is very adorable and she is growing up to fast. I hope she will love school!

What method of extraction did you use?

I use the lazy person method of extraction (destruction).

I get a long pan (I think it's 9x13), a knife I will never use anywhere else and a metal spatula. You'll also need at least 1 colander and a pot.

I prop the frame up on the edge of the long pan. Use the knife and cut the cappings off so it starts to drain. Take the metal spatula and scrape the cells and honey out into the pan. Scrape down to the foundation. It will really flow when you do this. If you're patient you can let it drip without disturbing the cells after you get the cappings off. I'm not patient so I scrape. About 3 sides of a frame will fill up your pan. Squish the cells with the spatula to make it drain faster. It helps if your room is warm. At this point I drain the honey and cells into a colander on a pot. I stir it up to let it drain well, and as it drains I scrape 3 more frame sides. Only mess with frames that are at least 2/3 capped. I put a towel down on the counter and use another box and put the empty sticky frames back into the other box. Once I'm ready to drain the pan again the wax from the previous drain pile goes into another colander over another smaller bowl. Repeat. Once I'm done that box goes back out to the hive to be cleaned up.

I then pour the honey into mason jars. There will be small amounts of wax still in your honey. This will float to the top over the next 24 hours. When you open a new mason jar you'll need to use a spoon to remove the small amount of annoying wax.

You can save the large pile of wax cappings to render into a beeswax block. That's for another post. These pics are from last year. I got smarter this year with towels down and a second box for the sticky frames.

We have a new addition to our farm today.

This little one is still to wobbly to stand up just barely dry. Momma is standing over the baby to protect it. It is a little bull.

AWESOME!!!

Your 90 is like our 105 NOT normal this time of year... and rarely occuring any time

I had to sit in the car in the parking garage while Mom took Grandma in for her doctors appointment. Three bleeping hours.. Oh yah it was in the shade... but it was 103 in the shade

I am salty and gritty and we almost ran out of gas on the way home... her appointment went well... Mom told me she quits ever doing this again... so its up to me next.

Hopefully I will have lost enough weight to have the energy to walk the quarter mile through the offices and back out again.

You'll have that energy shortly enough. Keep at it. Just walk a few feet a day and gradually add more in when you can. Even if you can only go a few feet, it's a start to build your foundation from.

You can even walk in place in the comfort of your own home (if you have A/C)
