SEE? Toldyaso!

It's a low fat, high protein dairy product, made by fermenting milk. It's has a pretty thick consistency, sort of like if you would run cottage cheese through a mixer until its smooth. Has a slightly sour taste and fresh taste to it. Makes a nice dessert when you combine it with whipped cream, fresh berries and sugar. Mostly consumed in northern and eastern Europe, and in the German speaking countries.
Sounds a bit like sour cream?

Yes.. It is.

I prefer the fancy quark like quark mixed with herbs... I like Bärlauch best (mild garlic flavor), but the one with chives is good too.

Think a spreadable cream cheese/sour cream blend... SUPER dreamy on a freshly baked roll.

Diva cranky? Nahhhh... never happens! She's just "no longer young" and kinda set in her ways

Hey Diva, since you have almost 4 times as many posts as Alaskan, maybe you can ask the powers that be to give you the 7 yr badge early? I like cheesecake in moderation, but normally way too heavy and sweet for me. I can't imagine it as anything other than a sweet dessert. I absolutely love real egg custard! haven't made it in many years. I'm NOT a big fan of salmon, in any of its varieties or variations... Not sure why, just never acquired a taste for it. Now a nice grilled slab of swordfish, tuna (any pelagic actually), dolphin (Mahi mahi), or saltwater striped bass or grouper.. Oh yeah! Just a little salt & pepper with some fresh squeezed lemon and I'm all over that!

For those interested, I found a can of Pillsbury flaky biscuits in the back of the fridg (they were hidden behind a large bottle of apple sauce) that expired back in April. I cooked them and although they didn't rise as much as a fresh can, they taste fine. I could be on to something here! Gotta check w/the local grocer and see about discounted or free expired food products

Getting much cooler here at night now. Fall has seriously arrived. Gonna have to start closing the windows at night pretty soon. I really do like not using heat or AC and having the house full of fresh air and at a comfy 60 degrees! Love the weather, but really wish we could get some serious rain for a day or two. Where's El Nino?
It cooled off here too. We're expecting frost Saturday and Sunday morning and then a nice warm up next week. 70s/50s

I think most grocers give their near expired products to food pantries. For meat, I believe they're required to throw it away.

I like all fish but shy away from farm raised. Sea bass makes the best ceviche, one of my favorite foods.

you gave me an idea, I'll have to make custard - once I fill all the egg orders and molt is over.

Its just cooled off. even smells like October finally Last week it rained but the air was so dry the water evaporated before it hit the ground... I am sure its raining in the mountains some.... Thats where we need it to bring the water tables up.

Somebody out there got deluged. Not a beneficial way to get rain with hardpacked soil

My DH said that California just got flooded somewhere. No? I told him it had to be in just one small area, or I would have heard about the..somewhat good news of rainfall from you guys here in California!

We are expecting some rain come Sunday and Monday...It should move over California first so they say, not sure what part, lower I think.

Just north of LA had a mud slide.

El Nino is here!
