Are you OK Diva? You seem like you've been a little on edge lately. Is there anything we can do to help? You're not normally so confrontational and negative? Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

Kern County too. Grapevine North and South closed yesterday and reopened I think later today from mudslides. Bad flooding on Hwy 58 too. It has poured elephants here in Bakersfield for 2 days. We aren't used to rain like this so early. Supposed to be more coming tonight too. Just hope my old roof holds out!!

Bakersfield! Then we will be getting quite a bit here. So they are saying. Not sure what that roof of yours is up to, sure hope it's up to holding up though.

Perchie, I don't "LOVE" where I live - I like it very much but, to me the pros outweigh the cons. But,I don't have to fear impending doom during every season of the year.

It's like the decision to free range, you have to decide if the predator losses are something you can tolerate or not.

I apologize for overreacting. But with all its warts I love San Diego and San Diego county. You have to realize California is a rather large state... I have family spread from Shasta to the Mexican border. My grandmother lived in Bakersfield for a time. Sacremento, San Fransisco, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange county, Riverside... thats a spread from High timber to desert...

I am not going in to the reason I stay and why millions of us stay... But for the most part its Home.

I usually get up about this time of day. 3 to 5.

This morning I woke to ruckus in the cellar. Found an opossum down there. Went to get a hammer to bludgeon it with. Saw it again and it froze in the light of the flashlight. Decided I could shoot it. Went to get the revolver, couldn't get a clear shot. Haven't seen or heard it again.

We don't get hurricanes though we can get the aftermath from those that hit Texas. We do get tornados and hail. Mostly the bad weather is either too much rain or too little. I think we all live where we do because it's easier to stay than go. I never did like the summers here. lots of 90-110F with high humidity. Though this one had been very pleasant. I hate heat. I always wanted to find a place that stayed between 40 and 70. Finally found it in the mountains of central America. I just have to do a lot of work to get my house ready to sell. Chickens eat up a lot of time.

Us old people have the right to be grumpy from time to time.

Bad things can happen anywhere.
I do feel that way though with people who get flooded out almost yearly and move right back in. We have communities like that along the Mississippi. Grafton, IL comes to mind. Pretty much every year they evacuate.

Tornado activity in the US and around the world.
F3, 4 and 5s since 1950

Whether you call them Hurricane, Typhoon, Cyclone or Willy-willy
150 years of hurricane tracks.

Lightning strikes around the world

The next 3 categories are pretty much related.

volcanoes around the world

Earthquakes

tsunami threat

Except for lightning and tornados, most of the activity on maps above seem to be concentrated in coastal areas.
