The Old Folks Home

Luckily, floods aren't an issue here where we live, but apparently the snow we haven't had all winter should arrive later in the week. All at once.

Bambam, how about stilted coops?

My stilted coops did best. But I lost an isabelle leghorn cockeral off of a 6 foot high roost

As in the wave of water was 6 feet tall? Of the idiot jumped off of the perch into the water?

It still boggles my mind that I lost EVERY SINGLE chicken to a dog attack one year... All they had to do was stay on the 6 foot tall perch :idunno

I think he got wet and couldnt fly up.
We did have a 3ft deep x 40 ft wide stream for about 4 hours

Didn't you say you had a man made stocked pond on your place? How did it fare? I would guess it's full to the brim/overflowing. Hope you didn't lose all your fish too! Don't know if it's run off ground water or spring fed, but I guess it's better than having it low and drying out or fish die offs from hot/low oxygen water...

Yep, it is talking about where I live. It isn't that unusual for here, but I was thinking it might impress you people that live in other places.

December 30, 12:20am – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the area, with winds expected to be between 50 and 60 mph with gusts to 75 mph through Wednesday morning.

If it keeps up I may need Noah's blueprints.
Off to find a tape measure in Cubits
I see AL is getting lots more rain today.

Lol. Humidity is fine...3ft of rain each week is making me rethink my stance on climate change.
It's real. The top 5 years for December tornadoes in the US have been in the last 15 years.

It weird to wake up to CNN and all the leading flood stories are areas all around me. One story was about West Alton. That's 10 minutes from my house and I passed there yesterday on my way to TSC. There was no sign on the way that said the southbound lanes were flooded so I couldn't return by the same highway but had to drive 20 minutes out of my way to get to another way across the Mississippi. Good thing we have a lot of bridges around here. I couldn't imagine having to drove 100+ extra miles to get somewhere.

I caught 2 of the neighbor's malamute husky crosses in the middle of killing the chickens in one building or they would have killed all they could reach. She paid for the chickens but I didn't want to sell them that way.

Just some of the carnage

Coming back for more

That's extreme. Almost unheard of around here. We don't have the best conditions for windpower but it still works.

I have been watching a water rescue on local news. Several sections of Interstate 44 are closed and somehow a woman drove past barricades and through flood water and got to a dry spot but couldn't go any farther. Fire department rescue boat came to get her. She was visibly upset that she had to leave her car.
Another view showed trees floating down the interstate. There are rapids on what were the exits.
Now there's another water rescue going on. A guy is sitting on top of his truck that apparently was swept off a flooded road.
The rivers are still rising.
They're showing a map of alternate routes and flooded roads. There are very few open roads in the area. Same area has a waste treatment plant that has been inundated and raw sewage is flowing into the river. Crests on this river won't be till tomorrow and they will all be records.
There's a mandatory evacuation of 800 families in that town.
The next town down the interstate has had their water treatment plant shut down now that sandbagging efforts failed. It supplies water to 10,000 people and will be shut down for weeks. They're alerting people to conserve water - ya think?
They found a 5th foreign soldier that had drown when they drove through a flooded road.
65% of all flood related deaths are from driving through flood water.

Yes. My pond is fed by the same springs that feed "Blue Springs State Park.
I have a 24inch metal pipe for a spillway. It is working so far.

CC, that's a beautiful dog your neighbor has, but I'd be furious if my neighbors dogs hurt any of chicks! :hugs
So they paid for your chickens, what are they going to do about their dog??!?
