The Old Folks Home

Thank you Shell Shocked, around here (USA) no one believes me when I say squirrels, raccoons, fox, bats, etc. can carry rabies. They think I am paranoid. One friend lived in a condo not far from here, they had dying and dead bats laying in the hallways. I told her to complain to management and animal control. She just laughed. Weird. We live in a forested village and loads of wild animals opposums, ground hogs, and oops forgot also coyotes. Folks leave the dogs and cats running lose -not a good situation.
Oh My!

Rabies is fatal if you do not get the shots soon enough.

Yes, those animals do have a lot of rabies.

Thanks for the explanation SCG... should have just asked you; our friendly pharmacist, from the start. Strange that even with inoculation you'd still need the series of shots if you got bit... If that's the case, why get inoculated in the first place? I guess it would give you SOME initial protection and a head start....

I have to disagree with the statement that "...bats are vermin with wings they are just as bad as rats..." Bats are actually good to have around, especially the insect eating ones as they remove a tremendous amount of insects from the environment. I also like snakes and love to have them around (yes, even the poisonous ones) as they are one of the best vermin eradicators around. They do a # on the REAL vermin; rats & mice.

Totally agree . Bats are great mosquito eaters
A single bat can eat up to 6000 to 8000 mosquito size insects each night
