Never heard of a rabies vaccination for humans... There is a set of shots one has to take if bitten by a possibly or known rabies infected animal...

and does the Human vaccine have to be done every X amount of years just as in dogs?
it would seem this would be a good idea for people in ancillary type jobs. Animal foster care Wild live rehabilitation Or just Dumb doo doos who take in lost critters... Like ME.

Deb if you continue to be high risk (lab workers that test for rabies) you can have the lab draw your blood and do something called a "titre" to see how immune you are after a few years have gone by after you got the shot series. If the titre dips, one can be given a booster dose (or two, or three) but this is very infrequent and there's not good data on it. Keep in mind if you're exposed and vaccinated you still get treatment, just not as much as those unvaccinated.
hi yer drumstickWhen I used to breed dogs many years ago, England was considered rabies free. I sent 3 dogs there over time, they still had to have rabies shots (which they did) and be in quarantine I believe it was 6 mos. Rough on dog and importer ($$$$$$) I always thought rabies would show up MUCH sooner than 6 mos. Remember how fast "Ole Yeller," came down with it?![]()
