Well, now we've gone from warmest December ever to proper winter here. Still only 2 inches of snow, but it's pretty cold. The thermometer said -18C this morning (0F). And it should be getting colder still, with cold air coming in from Siberia. And then next week we should be back to +2C (35F). Weird weather.

Wouldn't really be all that bad if we got some longer cold spells, some invasive crop destroying insects have been migrating further north in the later years when the winters haven't been cold enough to kill them, it wouldn't hurt to get that problem taken care of.

It is really cold out there this morning. Our (new) outdoor thermometer has been stuck on 40 degrees no matter the conditions since pretty much we bought it. Before we realized it was really wrong, it was snowing and... 40 degrees. Now, that can happen, so we didn't think much of it.

This morning the gauge has finally moved, it is now reading 10. It feels a lot colder than that out there and it likely has to be to get a move out of the gauge. I need to get a working gauge. This is a new gauge, the old one that worked for years finally warped enough in the hot/cold cycle and it got stuck. The new gauge has been out there maybe a month. It was toast after the first week.

28o here. Not unusual at this time of year, though we haven't had much of it up to this point - the warm season grasses are still green and growing. We're heading for a high around 40 today; depending on when that happens, I may not be able to get the rabbitry water system thawed out, so I may wind up having to haul water out there several times today.

One nice thing about this cool weather is that the air is dry, so the ground tends to get dried out with the sun shining on it. It's supposed to warm up in a couple of days, just in time to . . . . . rain. *sigh*
