Alaskan, with all you do, do you have time to milk a goat? Have you ever dealt with goats before? Can you build a space that will both confine and protect a creature that seems hell-bent on annihilating both itself and anything it can reach? I mean, you've had horses, so you know what they are like; pound for pound, goats are worse. And that really should be "goats." plural, since they are herd animals and hate being alone.
Better check your aluminum foil hat - something seems to be getting beamed through it.
Silly lady I would never be milking goats... Just like I never haul frozen water ... I have children.
Children do things outside in the frozen darkness.
Achem... And yeah, both of my sisters have goats... So I am fully aware of their care as well as their perpetual desire to try to kill themselves.
We have all of the horse stuff still..... A multi strand electric... I am highly doubtful though, that even when dialed up to "burn a spot on your hide" that the multi strand electric would keep the goats in... Probably have to double fence the suckers. not sure... Gotta research that, neither one of my sisters use electric.
The most painful part is that we have started using the barn as storage We would have to clean.
We made it out of pressure treated 2x4s. The fence bolts together using a screwed in O ring on the top and mid section of each fence piece. Then we used a C clamp with a screw thing to catch them together. We bought some type of wire fencing and pneumatic stapled it on. That's it. They have escaped once, when they were tiny between the fence posts. Now they're way too fat for that. They have stretched the fence - it bows out, but still holds. The gate no longer latches so I have 2 rubber rope things that tie it closed. The fence is much bigger, now, but we started out with only a few panels and a 3 sided shelter. We now have an 8x8 barn and more fencing.
We also made a less waste hay feeder. Less waste anyway, before they break it. We have to replace it every spring. They've broken the holes and can pull a lot of hay out. It is totally fubared right now, it is on hospice care. And you do leave the top on, not as shown in the pics.
And in full disclosure, my goats are full sized. Probably bigger than full sized. My fencing is very adequate for probably 150 lbs of goat. Pippy loves to rub and scratch on it, contributing to the bowing, but it continues to hold. I did not want to do electric because you have to keep it clear in the winter. That's basically impossible.
Then again I don't have teenagers to do my bidding.
